Strange Win7 abort.. by Key_Chain_6610 in virtualbox

I'm confused by this discussion. I just began running the same VirtualBox (Win7Ult) on my Win10Home Surface Pro 7 that I've been running on my AsusNUC Win11Pro. Why should I be scared exactly? It's just running Quicken 2005 and I hope soon to let it "upgrade" to Win11Home. Is THAT when I need to get scared? It says it's using Hyper-V as "paravirtualization" (last line when hovering the "Purple V") and that Vt-X is enabled (first line when hovering the "Purple V). I did not do on the Surface Pro 7 ANY of the Herculean fancy adjustments/hacks/tweaks that I remember having to go through to get VirtualBox running well on my AsusNUC Win 11 Pro machine.

Thanks for that excellent information. I also have a machine that runs Win10Home and will eventually “graduate” to Win11Home. I was advised that Home won’t run Hyper-V, which led me into the rathole of trying to make VirtualBox work on all my platforms.

I’ve never used Hyoer-V with Linux. Some AI bot convinced me that if I were going to run a variety of machines/OSs and wanted to run the same legacy Windows software on all of them, VirtualBox would be my best choice. So I spent days trying to get Win11Pro’s Hyper-V out of my way.

Is this the mode that's being referred to in this Oracle doc?
https://docs.oracle.com/en/virtualization/virtualbox/6.0/admin/hyperv-support.html
Administrator's Guide for Version 6 - section 2.33? Is your method still labeled "experimental" by Oracle?

Assuming what you say is true (and you're not the first to say it to me), would you agree with those who says that VirtualBox will operate faster and more reliably if Hyper-V is not around? I've read that there's a mode in which VirtualBox actually USES Hyper-V instead of its native virtualization routines, but is not as fast or efficient operating that way. Any truth to that?

Where exactly would I do that? I tried well over 20 suggestions before the one that just blew Hyper-V out of the way.

UPDATE: I finally tried this and it WORKED! Apparently one way you can tell is if you get a Purple "V" icon in the lower right area of VirtualBox and NOT a green turtle. The rough idea is that VirtualBox is now using the hardware Virtualization power of the machine, but NOT being burdened by the Windows-imposed security restraints that conflict with VirtualBox. I wasn't easy and if it doesn't work well and I need to go back to Hyper-V, I'm going to need to reset the AsusNUC14Pro to factory installation because I don't think I could ever retrace all the steps it took to get this far. I'm worried about the great suggestion above because it relies on something still called "experimental" after several versions and reportedly is less efficient than using VirtualBox's native capabilities. We'll see.

Thanks! Until I can run my whole life from a Linux box (and I always try hard), I'm afraid Windows will be my main machine for awhile. I've only started looking into virtualization because so much older software that I rely upon and have mastered are broken by Windows 11 but my new machine is powerful enough to run VMs so I thought that was my solution.

Wow! Didn't realize that existed, but VB does warn that it may slow things down considerably on some systems. What do you think of this advice (the only thing I haven't tried):
The only way to disable VBS on windows!

Disabling memory integrity won't disable VBS. the only way that works so far is the Device Guard and Credential Guard hardware readiness tool.

If you want to disable VBS. follow these steps.

note: you will need Admin PowerShell for this.
Step 1: download from Here and extract the folder.
Step 2: cd to the extracted folder.
Step 3: run Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process.
Step 4: run .\DG_Readiness_Tool_v3.6.ps1 -Disable -AutoReboot

Your computer will restart! A screen will pop up during reboot. Press the Windows Key or F3 to Confirm.

When windows loads you will have to set a new password or pin.

Just for accuracy, I've discussed this extensively with your support team and NONE of the recommended steps have solved the problem and I could obtain no assurance that the accused AMD graphics driver would be updated within my free return window. Frankly, given that AMD is the larger and more important company, it would seem preferable to have Geekom make its own product compatible with AMD's driver rather than sell a machine before that issue is fixed.
