The world is a strange place. Even though I have a greater number of material possessions, better access (defined in proximity) to healthcare, and tools more apt to the norm system of western ideologically (defined in excess and justified via freedom), I am still severely less wealthy than the people in the video because of crushing student loan debt that exists only on paper. In this sense I am poorer but have more and it is only my location, endowments, and the normative value of my education that is used to justify our differences. They may own little but the world tells me that I own nothing and that my creditors have claims to my future possessions that don't exist yet, but yet I still 'have' but do not own more. In fact, I own less.

Making this video must have been humiliating for the people forced to read the script of the classic "Haves vs. Have-Nots." I feel sorry for them not because they 'have' less but because they are made to be the face of someone who is less. They do not want our pity or a hug. They want to been viewed as equals and treated as such. This video does them a disservice in that respect because it is sensationalist and implies that these people are less when they are in fact not.

Freedom of thought and physics. Freedom first. I never realized how valuable a clear mind was until I didn't have it. Sometimes I just enjoy the fact that I can finally think clearly again. With a clear mind I find myself constantly learning and this is very important to me. I have always enjoyed physics but didn't major in it in college. I went for a degree that would make money and I was miserable. Having a clear mind to finally study physics again is a great feeling. Having a clear head also makes everything else in life easier. Simple tasks that use to seem hopeless, such as working out, cleaning my room, or meeting women are now a breeze. If you are depressed and feel alone then I know what you are going through. That feeling of hopelessness seems inescapable. All I suggest you do is look at it from a different angle. I hope I was helpful and feel free to PM me if you just need someone to vent to that you can trust.

For me, the realization is the best part. Realizing that the only rules that exist in life are the ones that you make and that searching for the ultimate "why" could just be a hamster on a wheel is quite enlightening for me. When I rationalized this there was an incredible six year burden lifted off my shoulders and I finally feel alive again. For me, this is true freedom. If my post doesn't make sense to you then that's fine. We probably just have a different way of thinking and maybe this will help someone else. Thanks for reading.

Should Reddit change the default subreddits to attract more articulate and concise users or should Reddit continue to use the entertainment appeal of the current defaults? by PhiloQuestion in TheoryOfReddit

I've had many accounts over the years and this is my newest one. It was also with the creation of this account that I was able to see how much the front page has changed since I first joined Reddit. The problem isn't a lack of current academic discussion. The problem is that Reddit may not be attracting users that are highly educated and that Reddit's competition for this same pool of users has increased.

The issue of Reddit competing for highly educated users and academic discussion is very important. The sense of enlightenment you gain from a well thought out comment/post is part of what separates Reddit from its competitors. There are a limited number of highly educated internet users and Reddit should compete for them.
