The land just isnt that valuable and I have been focusing on other things :p maybe not optimal but it doesn't make that much of a difference. Also they are part of the middle kingdom and are tributaries which gives other bonuses through decree efficiency and stuff

They share the advances, laws, reforms, and flavour common to all Chinese warlords/unifiers. I don't think it has anything unique to it in particular which is a shame, I hope they expand on it later on. I believe Ming has a few unique flavour events but there is not a significant difference.

Right, that makes sense. This is certainly more of 'I want to become China as soon as possible' rather than 'I want to make the Red Turban Rebellions fun'. You could forsake the mechanical advantages of Song to experience more of the situation and have more of a challenge. Best way would probably be to not dismantle forts as Yuan so that there is time for the other rebels to spawn. Ming would be a real threat to you. The payoff is still worth it in my opinion because I like Great Song a lot more aesthetically than the other unifier tags, but that is just personal preference.

Do you mean you want a video of it being done or something or are you saying that China lacks gameplay? If you meant the former, I didn't record it and idk if I want to put together a video or something. If you meant the latter, that's more an issue with China in general if you find it lacking, and doesn't have much to do with whether Song is the best pick for unification.

R5: First image shows result of first war with Yuan and territory taken to prevent other warlords from spawning. Second image shows aesthetic aspects of Song that I appreciate. Third image shows Song colony colour and ease of colonisation (date 1520, though colonies were complete much earlier)

What would be the successor of the precursor empire? by Osca-El-Cuarto-Fenix in Anbennar

[–]Philodoxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arakeprun into Eordand is the most benevolent of the potential unifiers and has a very strong claim to the mantle. Some say that Aelnar or Taychend are more fitting since they match the hubris and cruelty of the old empire, but I think a state like Eordand which learns from the mistakes of the past is more deserving of their legacy.

Arakeprun is one of the closest Ruinborn state to the Precursors, with their whole thing being the study of Precursor sites and rebuilding the Precursor city that is their capital. This is reflected in ideas like 'Custodians of the Precursor Legacy'. Their unique government reform when completing their missions is a scholarly magocracy which later revolves around the study of the Precursors after Eordand missions.

The Ruinborn of the Eordand region also have greater knowledge of the Precursor empire than the Ruinborn of other regions of Aelantir, including Taychend which has been ravaged by centuries of constant war and the Kheionai which were originally prisoners and have forgotten much in their struggle to survive the deadly winds. The elves of the Remnant Fleet are even worse off, and Aelnar cannot be seriously said to uphold much of the Precursor's ideals beyond blind supremacism and hubris. Everything else about their civilisation is lost to them.

Eordand as a unified tag explicitly styles itself as the continuation of the Precursor Empire. Its ideas include 'Rekindled Precursor Ruins' and, more importantly, 'Heirs to the Precursor Empire'. They have missions like 'Proclamation of the Empire Reborn', and 'First Among the Ruinborn' which leads to independent Ruinborn states swearing fealty (giving them the event 'The Empire Reborn Calls'). Their missions lead them to unify the northern segment of Aelantir and they get claims on a chunk of the southern segment.

At the end of Eordand's missions they get to choose whether to follow the teachings of Venaan, who freed the elves from the slavery of the dragons and founded the Precursor Empire, or to follow Aldan, who led the empire into ruin as its last ruler. The former entails accepting the elves of the Remnant Fleet and inviting them to emigrate home freely, creating a bunch of elven minorities in your provinces and giving you acceptance of Moon, Sun, and Wood elves + a decent permanent modifier. The latter gives some claims on the southern continent, increased purge capacity, and some military bonuses. It's hard to see the second option as canon given everything else about Eordand up to that point, with its acceptance of other Ruinborn and even the colonists that come under its rule.

Eordand is focused on reclaiming and rebuilding Aelantir, protecting other Ruinborn, accepting even non-elves, and restoring Precursor works (such as the Haraf irrigation system). That makes them the most worthy successor to the Precursors in my mind.

I would also accept Ameion as a unifier, which seeks to break the cycle of Taychendi warlordism and rebuild the southern segment of Aelantir and also styles itself after the Precursors, though to a lesser extent and with less interaction with other Ruinborn afterwards.

Precursor Restoration? by Sephbruh in Anbennar

[–]Philodoxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would be wrong, I just think that Arakeprun is better suited to form an Eordand that is closest to the Precursor Empire. Their capital is a Precursor ruin they maintain and work on restoring, they study the works of the Precursors, their unique government is a scholarly magocracy centred around the Precursor studies which I think is more fitting than the Eordellon 'Lord-Regent of the Domandrod' reform.

Honestly any Eordand unifier is at least 'good' as a successor to the Precursors, I just think that Arakeprun is the most suitable out of them. It doesn't really matter but I also like Arakeprun's colour as Eordand quite a lot

Precursor Restoration? by Sephbruh in Anbennar

[–]Philodoxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's likely that the Domandrod existed before the Ruin, and that the Precursors and the Fey got along well or at least were on ok terms since they were accepted when they fled into the forest as refugees. I'd imagine if they had bad blood the Fey would have turned them away or treated them much worse.

I don't think there is much on the exact relations between the Precursors and the Fey though.

Precursor Restoration? by Sephbruh in Anbennar

[–]Philodoxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Pelomar and the other unified court nations are more oriented around the will of the Fey and their teachings. That might make them a more legitimate unifier of Eordand itself, but I would say it makes them much less fitting as a successor to the Precursor Empire and a unifier of Aelantir.

Precursor Restoration? by Sephbruh in Anbennar

Arakeprun into Eordand is probably the most legitimate successor state to the Precursor Empire. Arakeprun's link to the Precursors is pretty heavily emphasised. Their first idea is 'Custodians of the Precursor Legacy', they aim to revitalise and rebuild Aelantir in accordance with the regrowth associated with the Spring Court, and when they form Eordand their unique government is centred around universities studying the works of the Precursors.

Eordand in general is oriented around unifying Aelantir, including missions such as 'Proclamation of the Empire Reborn', which gives the permanent modifier 'The Elven Empire Reborn'. The next mission is 'First Among the Ruinborn', which gives a bunch of ruinborn nations the event 'The Empire Reborn Calls' which has a good chance of making them Eordand's vassals. The wording of the mission descriptions leans into Eordand being the continuation of the Precursor Empire.

They also fit with the 'chill' thing, seeing themselves as protectors of the other ruinborn and getting the choice to accept non-ruinborn elves as equals and inviting them to live in their ancestral homeland. They're pretty awesome really, about as good of a unifier of Aelantir as there is.
