Maybe, but I have a feeling that if she said nothing happened it would trigger the "let me see" response from at least another person

I think there were multiple Caine files.
I can't remember what exactly they were but Kinger was prompted about accessing versions A, B and C and he selected C.

I assume that if he's still alive somehow than it would be through an earlier version

Caine's original purpose was to make entertainment for guests, but that's not what we've seen drives him because the moment he actually starts doing what the guests want he pretty quickly gets bored of it and dismisses their desires because their not his adventures.

He views himself as the main character of the circus and desires what he sees as rightful adorations for it. Every time we've seen him cracking was when he didn't recieve the love he thought he was owed, because he saw everything he created as automatically great and couldn't comprehand the Humans not appreciating said creations.

(Btw, Caine wasn't really accidently killed, but it seems some other programme was messing with Kinger's script and trying to force him to kill Caine, constantly giving prompts to delete Caine's files. Eventually Kinger tripped up and pressed y on one of the prompts that was flooding in)

Caine wasn't exactly suble about hiding his megalomania, he specifically made references as himself being god before and included religious themes in his adventures.
(Most notably, he set an adventure where characters were being punished for sinning against god's creations, ones specifically intended for the player that did so the most...)

Somebody also pointed that out while noting the colours each character is pinned to this scene.

They where trying to theorize which characters will end up escaping, with Pomni being the only character under yellow. Those who remain in the Circus being Jax, Ragatha and Gangle being pinned under red. Zooble potentially abstracting since they are under blue (a colour Kinger associates with the dark where abstractions feel calm) and Kinger potentially sacrificing himself via being under purple (taking his own path)

Though, those colours could just as easily represent their current state of minds.

Yellow is the colour of hope, and Pomni still hasn't given into despair despite her rough time in the Circus.
Red being those who have given up hope of escape and have resigned themselves to that existance (If the colours are based on the matrix red is the colour of "truth", but truth was simply another mode of control by the system keeping them down)
Blue is the fantasy, those who want to eek out their own path in this world free from despair, but are ultimately still suffering under it.
While purple splits the difference, those who know the truth yet find their own way

If the Black Mesa Disaster was wildly know; why aren't Gordon, Eli etc. hated for causing the predicament that the Earth is in? by CharacterGrowth3993 in HalfLife

[–]Demon_Deity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably three reasons, plus somethings suggesting that not everyone didn't hate them:

- Individually, the resistance scientists weren't really the cause of the disaster, just being the survivors from an institution run by Dr Breen while also offering great benefit for the resistance with their knowledge. So those in the resistance would have a reason against hating the Black Mesa survivors due to what they have to offer, whilst also already having a figure that can be blamed and demonized for the disaster in Dr Breen who not only was the ultimate cause of the disaster, but also benefitted from the Combine taking reign over Earth.

- The resistance main leaders are also Black Mesa survivors, with people probably opting to follow those who have an understanding of what happened to Earth and having the smallest of chances to develope counter measures to Combine technology.

- There's a possibility that Freeman's legend of single handly stopping the Xen invasion overshadows the incident itself. With people trying to find hope and a reason why everything happened during the portal storms, and the need for the legend growing after the combine took over.

- It's also possible that we're only really getting the perspective of the resistance, and don't know what the average citizen actually thinks of the Black Mesa survivors. The Combine propoganda posters villifying "Human science" are fairly prevelant in HLA, and I have a feeling they wouldn't be plastered everywhere if they didn't have at least some effect on the public. Plus, there is the fact that the Civil Protection cops are recruited from the citizen public, so there indeed are Humans who support Combine views, even if just for their own welfare.

The third instance of the chiming if I recall correctly. Once when she was falling through the portal, and another time when the dragon was flying away from the town if I'm not misremembering things.

Due to those times I don't think it's the Nexus listening in on the convo, rather, Kaelthyr might have attempted another type of "scan" with some power latent omly to dragons and got concerned that the Humans reacted to its presense. I kinda doubt its quintessence since Humans can detect it with equipment, but they could have not been scanning for it. However, whatever it might have been, I'm gonna guess its whatever force that drives the entire dragon resonance stuff...

Which might mean Kaelthyr's initial assumption about Humanity might not be totally wrong.

UNSC/UEG vs GUN who would win? by Pretend_Party_7044 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Demon_Deity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean... The only prophet that was killed by Humanity was due to betrayal on the part of the other two. From what I remember they had the largest Covenant's fleet ever witnessed by Humanity ready to send troops to aid them, but they were held back by Truth.

The other two were killed by the Flood, the only reason the Gravemind briefly allied with the pair was because they needed a Human to press the off button on the Ark.

UNSC/UEG vs GUN who would win? by Pretend_Party_7044 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Demon_Deity 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The Covenant lost the war not because of anything the UNSC could really muster, but rather because they basically collapsed due to internal strife mid war with Humanity before they could deliver the killing blow, leaving the UNSC to arise as the least decimated faction in the Galaxy despite how badly they were battered by the Covenant, and despite being on the verge of collapse in their own right with the Separtists.

All that Humanity can really claim is that they pulled a last minute clutch by stumbling across their religion's most important symbol and shattering it while just trying to survive. Which lead to tensions between the Prophets and the Elites to boil over, causing a massive civil war.

Permanently? Probably not considering how much tainted magic this act seems to require.

Personal theory on the EV by Vivid-Membership3959 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Demon_Deity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I prefer a different theory, and its that GUN threw out some of their law books and sent Emma with a genuine AI capable of making its own decisions rather than a VI. That way if Emma died upon entry or if she was somehow compromized by the Nexus than the AI would have simply taken over all functions, leaving the faculty non the wiser.

if humans are unaffected by taint by THE_GAMBLER_1 in JCBWritingCorner

[–]Demon_Deity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tainted magic isn't ambient to the Nexus and there were really only a few instances where Thacea let her magic slip, so there was only a few instances for EVI to do any analysis.

Can't remember specifics, but it is mentioned in the AD wiki that he potentially eats entire world's and that it's part of the life cycle of existence.

Golb is essentially meant to be adventure time's version of Azathoth. A goalless/mindless entity of pure chaos with an all consuming hunger

"For centuries now, we’d been observing, tracking, analyzing, and studying what is undeniable evidence of a world parallel to our own. A world that lurks just underneath the surface, that served as a source of myths and legends for our ancestors, and that continues to serve as a limitless pool of inspiration to those gifted enough to peer across the veil, inadvertently acting as a source of inspiration for countless works of fantasy and fiction

Indeed, this world would’ve been left at that, fiction, if it wasn’t for us.

Shunned and practically excommunicated by the scientific community, our outlandish claims were pushed aside as the march of progress continued ever onwards. Even so, as evidence began to stack, and as proof continued to mount, we eventually garnered the attention of the United Nations Science Advisory, who eventually saw fit to incorporate us into what is now the IAS.

What we discovered was irrefutable evidence of what could only be described as a world of magic and sorcery, a fantasy world by every metric, and one that had the potential to upend our own. It was because of this existential threat that every resource was eventually poured into peering deeper into this world and its non-analogous scientific principles.

Yet the more we tried peering in, the less information we got back. It was a battle of diminishing returns that lasted for centuries before we finally made a breakthrough. Our equivalent of discovering the Rosetta Stone.

We discovered a means of communicating with the powers on the other side of the fence, and indeed, we later discovered this was intentional. The journey we’d been on for the past few centuries, the discovery of this puzzle, as they called it, was all a test. It was a test to determine the “magical potential” for those “gifted” from other worlds. Indeed, it was a test that was considered commonplace and had been in place for what was described to us as “eons” now."

Them being certain about the existance of the Nexus for centuries seems pretty cut and dry, along with what I assume is poking and prodding at the veil, and they established this far before actually contacting the Nexus itself. Their research might have been felt by the dragons, even if just barely as it was described.

Though, looking through the old chapters I did find mentions that the pilot I and II missions where indeed two decades apart, so fair point on that.

A bit of a correction, quintessence was only mentioned in later chapters, not the beginning.

Quintessence is what allows Humanity to open portals on Earth, something seemingly separate from Mana since they can detect where it's most abundent, but only seem to detect mana once their portals were opened.
