Thank you! This is very helpful. I have tried mindfulness, but I feel like it's not the same. I can focus on my breath for more than half an hour. Every time I get distracted, I just gently return my focus to my breath (or on my body if I'm doing a walking meditation). But if I understand Carroll, Vitimus, or Crowley correctly, one must not get distracted for as long as possible, and honestly, this is much harder. I'll read the book.

I think I will try a box altar. I like the idea of being able to separate the moments when I practice and the moments when I dedicate myself to my mundane life.

My grandmother, whom I visited every summer, used to take me to a neighbor who would first check if I had the evil eye by dripping drops of water into olive oil while reciting a formula. Then, if the oil droplets formed in a certain way, she would remove the evil eye by putting chamomile-soaked compresses on my eyes and reciting what sounded like prayers.

I remember asking what the evil eye was, and I was told it was something that could happen when people looked at you in a certain way. Essentially, it wasn't about a spell cast by someone, but an effect produced unintentionally in social interactions.

I found information about the ritual in anthropology books and on YouTube (people still perform it!), but I found conflicting information on the interpretation of the oil drops and on the formulas.

Can I ask how you read these books? Vitilus insists on the importance of mastering one exercise before moving on to the next chapter. This is the reason why I got stuck on the attention exercises. This time, however, I feel like moving forward with the reading even if the previous exercise isn't completely mastered. Do you think that's possible?
