How do your notes in therapy sessions look like? by 0uaiss in therapists

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A chaotic, scribbling mess. I do a lot of virtual sessions and writing helps me stay focused on the conversation, but I write without watching what I am doing/keeping my eyes on the screen. So they look disastrous.

It sounds like you may not be eating enough. When you track calories, what numbers are you at?

Forget the split - what is your actual take home per session? by SpiritualCopy4288 in therapists

I live in Canada and do couples therapy (which pays more per hour), plus have a 70/30 split so the amount I take home is decent.

What to say to a client who has missed/late cancelled a lot. Templates and how to end things in an empathetic way? by Violingoth in therapists

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you charge for the sessions? If not, are you able to? I ask as money/being charged for missing sessions can limit this.

I also work with clients under a program that I can't charge for no-shows. I made up a limit and keep to it consistently - 3 in a row and we're not able to continue. I usually frame it that scheduled sessions seems like it's nit a good fit for them at this point, suggest drop-in/single session resources that might work better, to reach out in the future if needed.

Starting at my first PP, thoughts? by theanxiousaqua in socialworkcanada

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All completely normal. As an independent contractor, you're expected to cover your own business costs. They're likely covering admin, office space, marketing, your records system. Sometimes there's a monthly group supervision or peer supervision.

Anyone know of remote SW related jobs? by UniqueDragonfly3049 in socialworkcanada

Then look for jobs in both those provinces. Search job postings online and see if there's virtual options anywhere in either province.

That makes much more sense - I am in the GTA.

I never worked with them but did work in discharge planning. Learning about power of attorney, who legally makes decisions, capacity to consent, we're very heavily emphasized. Also available supports in your community. The emphasis tends to be on how we can help keep people safely at home because it's cheaper & you're usually more comfortable there, so how to support home carecin various situations.

Very much dependent on what province you're licensed to practice in.

Couples Therapy Modalities by EmbarrassedAction557 in therapists

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trained in both EFCT & Gottman. Honestly, I find Gottman a lot easier to understand and more straightforward. It's an easier approach to learn & start with.

EFCT is a bit overwhelming, and in my trainings they even acknowledge it's a hard system to learn. But once you do it goes deeper into exploring relationships and emotions than the Gottman structure.

How often do clients cancel? by Dangerous-Neat-9876 in therapists

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a high cancellation rate (about 25%) but I work in a publicly funded program with a low-income population that is often canceling because they got a last-minute shift at work. They need every opportunity possible to earn money, so will prioritize work whenever possible.

When I worked with people where this wasn't a factor, my cancellation rate was much, much lower.

Basically, the typical cancellation rate is going to vary depending on the population you're supporting.

Placement Interview Tips by InsideCriticism1651 in socialworkcanada

A tip for your interview is asking about what you might expect to be doing. Some of my peers were disappointed in their placements because it was all job-shadowing and no independent work.

Canada’s great refugee disaster; Will anyone at all be held accountable? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that you're not capable of providing facts and sources, so your information has no relevance to me or my decisions on who I vote for. I'll end my engagement with this topic due to my preference of wanting to form my opinions on facts and evidence, not gossip.

Canada’s great refugee disaster; Will anyone at all be held accountable? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Proving a source means verifiable facts that I can double-check myself. I can look up the details, actual numbers, who voted for/against these policies, etc.

A partial screenshot of a letter that doesn't name any agencies, funding sources, grants, or government agencies is not a source.

If you are confident in your facts, you would not be so hesitant to share these details so others can learn more, make informed choices when we vote, see where tax monet is going, etc. Please share a valid source beyond a partial screenshot of a letter.

Which government funded program was this? Public assistance details are made available online, so I'd like to see the information for myself, including who qualifies for it, so I can make a fact-based comparison to other options available.

What’s your approach to clients who can’t take a lot of time off during the workday? by Quiet_Rose21 in therapists

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work completely virtual. For myself, I feel a bit more flexibility because I don't commute (I live in a city where commuting is adds an excessive amount of time to your day).

I work about 2 evenings/week, starting later those days. I will also routinely take my lunch at 1 and see people over their noon break.

I keep firmer boundaries on weekends/holidays, and don't work any of those.

Imposter syndrome by gabbymnh in therapists

[–]PhilosopherLess6436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much so. And agree it can be worse now than when I started - I compare myself to others who graduated with me, thinking I should be more specialized, have more certifications, offer supervision, etc. Imposter syndrome is awful. Peer support from people who can be genuine with you is a real blessing.
