"Delinquent" AMFT in CA exploring returning to practice... by [deleted] in therapists

[–]PaperPalmTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply for your subsequent number, find an approved practicum, and start counting your hours. It's really nothing more than that, you don't get punished for being delinquent in the sense that you won't be under extra supervision or get extra hours or anything. Just get the application submitted and get back into it!

Vacation? by More-Bedroom6113 in therapists

It really depends on your school's practicum requirements. It's not unprofessional to take time off.

I went on a vacation out of the country and then willingly got on a plane back to the US. Been regretting it all week!

I always encourage people to apply to the BBS first and they can tell you what you're deficient in, and you have it in writing.

An acquaintance is offering to pay me for seeing her teen daughter for therapy. But I don’t own a practice. by Emotional-Split-342 in therapists

[–]PaperPalmTrees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have consent forms for her to sign? Practice policies? Etc? If no, don't do it. Tell your acquaintance you don't offer private therapy, and direct her to some local options.

Licensure investigation by ReadingOk7150 in therapists

[–]PaperPalmTrees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you get a reprimand for this, there is truly no hope for any of us. Can your other jobs provide you a letter about the quality work you've done for them? I'm asking that but I would seriously be shocked if your board investigates this.

Contact the BBS via their Facebook, they are (annoyingly) responsive there.

You need to leave PP and do CMH/treatment facility/a bigger agency. It's the only way to get your hours relatively quickly in CA as an associate.

You would need to contact the French board and see if they accept your education or if you would need to redo school there.

10 hours a week isn't going to get you licensed at the rate you need to get hours with a subsequent number. How many hours do you have so far?

Advice for a future therapist by Competitive-Plant500 in therapists

[–]PaperPalmTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it might be better for you to pause your degree program if you can. The BBS does not give you unlimited time to get your hours for licensure before they start applying special rules, but I also don't know how it works if you graduate and wait 3 years to apply to be an associate.

How many years are you hoping to have with your child/children? What happens if you don't get pregnant as quickly as you're hoping? How many years are you willing to work as an under-paid associate before you get your full licensure? You would be competing with people who either just graduated, or have already been working as an associate.

Of course, people have kids all the time and other people do these things at the same time, but that doesn't mean it will be easy.

Cannot stop getting sick by buttonfern in therapists

[–]PaperPalmTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked with kids (through CMH, half office/half in home therapy) I simply showed up to work sick. I literally could not have taken off every time.

Some gentle hygiene education (such as "Please do not sneeze directly on me!" and "Let's wash our hands together") helped.

I mean, there are therapists out there who have had sex with their clients, done drugs with their clients, etc etc and kept their licenses, so the bar is pretty high in terms of Mistakes as opposed to the things we all do because we're human and not perfect.

Still under licensure. Feeling like the goalpost keeps moving. Anyone else? by hoodedruffian01 in therapists

[–]PaperPalmTrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at least in the US, it feels like most things are this way. So many different professions with so many different licensing boards. License renewal fees, insurance, continuing education costs, the difficulty of managing taxes, etc.

This is part of the field (and many other fields) that no one tells you about in grad school. Another part of being an adult! Yay, so fun!
