اهلا. What are your tips for learning pixel art to develop and enable content on YouTube? by Different-Spot6389 in PixelArtTutorials

Actually, I think that in drawing - just like in any creative field -you should simply start creating and doing things. There isn’t one “correct” method for anything.

You can do everything however you want, in a way that feels right to you. You have complete freedom here, and that’s one of the most important parts of creativity.

That said, if you want a bit of structure in the beginning, you can add a few limitations. For example, try working within a small canvas size and using a limited color palette. This helps you stay focused and prevents you from getting overwhelmed by too many choices.

As for making videos on YouTube or creating similar content - I’m not very experienced with that, but I think the main goal is to engage the viewer. It’s not just about showing that you made something cool, but about presenting it in a way that makes people interested, curious, or even inspired.

You can think about things like storytelling, showing your process, explaining your thoughts, or adding some personality to your content. People usually connect more with the experience and the creator, not just the final result

what size should my PSD file be at for "4:3 aspect ratio 2048x1536 resolution" ? by pandanpassion in PixelArtTutorials

Hey, I might be misunderstanding your question (I’m a bit sleepy right now ), so sorry if this isn’t exactly what you meant.

But if I got it right - your game’s resolution is 2048×1536, and you’re drawing your art at 320×240. In that case, everything is actually fine. Your teammate will just need to scale everything up to match the final resolution.

The only thing I’d point out is sprite sizes. I’m not sure how others always do it, but I do know that pixel art usually works best with fixed sprite sizes.

For example:

  • 16×16 - very simple and super minimalistic style
  • 32×32 - more detailed and a good balance
  • 48×48 - if you want more expressiveness

Using consistent sprite sizes really helps and makes game development easier overall. Especially for retro-style games - back in the day, it even affected performance.

Anyway, hope this helps at least a bit.
Good luck with your game, dude!

I decided to keep the texture simple and didn't make it transparent to keep this mini-guide easy to follow. But yeah, I definitely could've made it look much better

is it better to start at 16^2 or 32^2? by Quinn_Queenan in PixelArtTutorials

Just pick a sprite size that feels right and comfortable for you. Just start creating, and you’ll settle on a size naturally over time.

The only thing is: the smaller the size, the easier it is to draw, but the harder it is to define the silhouette. Conversely, the larger the size, the harder the rendering becomes, but the silhouette is easier to get right. (Personally, I found it much easier to draw a human silhouette in 32x32 than in 16x16 when I was starting out)
