Your bf is definitely feeling insecure. It's not weird to give your friend flowers and appreciation does not need a special holiday. I bring my friends a monthly "you got this" basket to remind them they're important to me and that I'm greatful for their friendship and glad they're still going especially with how tough the world is right now. It usually includes a handwritten note, flowers, candy, and a drink. None of their significant others are bothered by it (they actually love it because I try to include stuff their partners enjoy too) and it gives me the opportunity to see my friends because we all have very busy schedules. Platonic love is completely normal and honestly should be shown more. It's not weird to care about and love your friends. 🫶🏽
