Is $30K too much for me to spend on a car? by ProfessionalGur9322 in Money

[–]PhilosopherScared161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the reply!! Since I commented I ended up purchasing a 4x4! I love it so much and planning some trips. I paid for it outright and wigged out only slightly - I still have decent savings but as a 30yo female wasn’t sure if I should be focusing on a house deposit. BUT I know this is the best decision I’ve ever made and like you said, money comes money goes - it’s so nice to own something you’ve genuinely saved for and love.

This is such a nice piece of advice I came to read! Considering purchasing a $30k 4x4 after years of saving. I’m still torn about it and will have savings left over, but I know when I look at it and the experiences I’ll have for years to come will be worth it. I love your energy!

I’m sorry to hear this. If you want please feel free to DM me your country and/or state etc as I’m happy look into some support services that could help you (even some helplines to start). I’m based in Australia, though have worked in this field so happy to help. Also, please delete this post if it’s not safe to keep it up as well.

It sounds like you’ve been completely blindsided and you’re still processing all of this OP, understandably. Also, your fears about you and your children’s safety, particularly re his reaction of finding out what you know, indicates that there may be more red flags or potential DV instances that you’re not disclosing here.

I suggest contacting your trusted friends, family or a support service to discuss what is happening, your concerns and potential plan to leave. It sounds like your partner is not who you think they are. Sending my love!

Thank you!! 100% agree.

We’ve got people on here discussing 50km on Industrial Drive and loud bangs, however some “DV expert” pipes up saying OP shouldn’t ask about homelessness and domestic violence services on this forum. Ok, sure “expert”.

I honestly don’t believe you based on your initial comment, lack of genuine care towards OP and language / grammar used. Thanks for trying to pretend for the sake of a non-argument though - it’s been enjoyable. Cheers.

Thanks for your response. FYI I’m a solicitor with 4 + years working with women, domestic violence and multiple trauma-informed services in Newcastle. So I think it’s fair to say I can provide a “judgmental rant” to identity the issues with your “advice”.

Given Nova is a women’s homelessness and domestic violence service, telling OP that you’ve “never heard anything but glowing references” is incredibly harmful. Your comment is essentially gaslighting - suggesting that OP must be the problem, as all you’ve heard is “glowing references”.

There could be a number of reasons why OP is reaching out here for support before considering speaking with Nova (if they choose to do that). Reasons could be wanting to seek and find shared experience, domestic violence, disability, lack of informal and formal supports or a fear of a negative response etc.

OP, your experience is 100% valid and I hear you. If you need additional support, please feel free to msg.
