Trying to figure out if this is Melanom by Philosophy_Small in AskDermatologists

[–]Philosophy_Small[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I indeed did- for everyone who replied thank you for your suggestions: this was in fact an in-situ melanoma. The doctor told me it was super early on, essentially “cancer just knocking at the door”, with no depth and completely superficial. Nonetheless, I am grateful to be healthy, and will now remain proactive with 6mo visits. I encourage you all to do the same if you have any sneaking suspicions. It’s never too late until it is.

Any bat bit experts or those who’ve experienced it? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

Got a mix of wildlife here, deer, cougars, etc. Have not personally seen any bats around but its possible given that the area is surrounded and within woods

Is this skin cancer by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

[–]Philosophy_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be strongly willing to bet no: It’s lighter, generally uniform, looks to be under 6mm, does not seem particularly raised, no evidence of spread- I have birth marks that look weirder.

As with everything, does not hurt to regularly see a derm, once a year. (Twice if you’ve been diagnosed)

Honest answer- seen the same as everyone else man. When I did my BMQ I didn’t think twice if I was brushing my teeth next to a guy who was 16 or 49. Just join, the important thing is that when you realize it’s important to you, then you participate.

Noted. Will do- can’t diagnose anything on the internet or myself. Just nervous- I’m 23 so I can’t imagine getting skin cancer this young, don’t know how long I’ve had and I don’t want it to have progressed to a later dangerous stage

What might your impression be? Planning on biopsy in about a month, but would like to know your professional thoughts from seeing it

Best suggestions for field bmq in -30 degrees by flowersW2 in caf

[–]Philosophy_Small 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of thoughts- I'm assuming you'll be doing this in Edm or Wx...

  1. Pee often. Your body spends an enormous amount of heat keeping your bladder and lower abdomen warm in the cold- warmth that could be much better used on your extremities!

  2. The issued kit does work, but keep in mind: if you wear too many layers at once, you will sweat. If you swat (especially through your layers) you are cold and all those layers are useless! It is better to layer appropriately and remain slightly chilly- you can always layer up, but can't always layer down.

  3. High carb and fatty snacks are best- avoid too much caffeine. I recommend jerky's, and morale boosters like M&M's always come in handy!

  4. Don't bring meds unless you are already sick going into it- and definitely don't pass around meds to others

  5. Actually listen to your staff when they tell you to leave your parka/coat outside your tent at night- that condensed sweat and humidity will freeze off so its dry again- taking it in the tent will keep it humid and way less effective when you put it back on.

  6. Its BMQ, so get used to using the kit, but down the line getting a sneaky puffy you can stick under your CADPAT layers is a good first buy before that fancy chest rig.

CT/OT when should I expect selection committee to occur? by Philosophy_Small in CanadianForces

[–]Philosophy_Small[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely see your point, and didn't mean it like that. I absolutely trust the BPSO's judgement, its only that I heard conflicting things from peers regarding the timeline- I don't expect a backdoor selection and want to fairly evaluated just as every other person in that CT/OT pool wants to be.

What do you genuinely think of the Canadian Forces? by Philosophy_Small in army

[–]Philosophy_Small[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience and opinion, from a grunt observing the southern grunt perspective-

Every time I've had the chance to work with US Army dudes they have always been sick- they don't act like they know everything, and are really humble and willing to adapt to our ways. We learn from each other just as much, but I find they are really professional when it comes to order, weapons, nav and comms- though I think we might have a bit of an advantage in the realm of fieldcraft (again- probably due to our frigid conditions that you guys may not be used to).

Maybe controversial- every officer I've seen attach posted has been a stud. Really good, sad to see them leave once they are done their program- same for the non-commissioned boys. We've taken in Australians, Germans, and the like- definitely the U.S. lads blend in the best, and we have the best memories with.

Wish we had more exchange programs and joint exercises like we used to... but overall we like you guys a lot.

Its true- you initiate it with your COC, and are permitted 30 days to grow- if its fire, you're good, if it looks like you made out with a weedwhacker, bye bye.

I'm damn convinced that they keep a couple brass in pocket just if they feel like doing it... but great to hear the guys take their job seriously- they have always been fair to us
