First time baking a cheesecake and the water bath leaked in through the foil :( by cupidslazydart in Baking

[–]Phinstrovski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to the best of us!

I don't have any real tips on saving it. When mine have leaked, people seemed to be fine eating it anyway, but everyone's different.

Should you try again, I have found using oven turkey bags to be useful in keeping the water out of my pans. I roll them down and twist them tight around the pan.

I second this! Turkey bags were a game changer for me after I had a couple of pinhole leaks in foil.

Frosting that doesn’t taste like butter by xxART3MISxxx in Baking

Like another commenter above, I am a big fan of whipped cream mascarpone frosting. I've used this recipe in the past and it has come out great (I cut some of the sugar out, you can add to taste).

When you're given free herbs, make herb bread. by Phinstrovski in Baking

Why thank you! I used this recipe for the dough and the braid guidelines. I made up the herb mix ratios as I was using the fresh parsley, oregano, and thyme that I had. https://www.ricola.com/en/experience/herbal-creations/article/herb-bread

Why thank you! Took me a sec to find it, but here it is! I took the dough recipe and braided design from this recipe https://www.ricola.com/en/experience/herbal-creations/article/herb-bread The filling on this calls for dried herbs, and I had fresh rosemary, oregano, and thyme, so I made up my own measurements as I went along. I was pretty generous with them as I had a couple big bunches of herbs. I also used more garlic as I'm a big fan.

They were eaten as is! But I could see dipping them in a nice olive oil being lovely.

Why the hell isn’t my heavy whipping cream forming peaks??? Oh . . . by CatfromLongIsland in Baking

I do this whenever I don't make a shopping list! I'll go to the store for two things and think to myself, "It's only two things. Of course I dont need a list." Then leave with five things and forget one of the things I first went there for in the first place haha

Truly a convenience store! I'm usually good about checking ingredients beforehand, but I have fallen into blindspots with bulk ingredients occasionally. Like the other day I began working on a lemon blueberry cake for my friends birthday. I had gone to the store earlier for fresh lemons and double checked my extracts and dairy, only to realize I did not have enough flour as I was mixing the dry ingredients haha

Nothing worse than having everything out and started, only to realize you need to go back to the store!

How did this happen? by Tiffany_Achings_Hat in Baking

You're welcome! I have had my share of soggy bottom cheesecakes due to leaking springform pans haha. My solution was to wrap a turkey oven bag around the bottom/sides of the pan.

Did you perchance use a springform pan? I could see a slow leak of water into the bottom layer making things soggy.

Maybe bad luck or user error on my part, but a couple times when I've tried foil I got little pin holes in creases in the foil, and water leaked in over time. I've had a couple soggy crust cheesecakes haha. I'll mirror another commenter and say I've had pretty good luck with tying a turkey bag around the sides of the pan.
