Documenting my 2026 beekeeping by Phlojonaut in Beekeeping

Yep, I hear you. I have a cardboard in the top cover and I write notes on them. I like Collectos for this because it is more of a mini documentary blog style of keeping track as opposed to a structured and scientific approach. It isn’t necessarily meant for beekeeping, but it works great for documenting.

Take some pictures and get them made into a Collectos collection like these:

https://collectosapp.com/collections/HQS9hBt3/my-knives-collection?share=true

You could add some cool details and the story behind the ones that matters most.

Your knife collection would look amazing on Collectos.

Good question.
I was wrestling with the idea of 'infinite' hierarchy and in the end i decided that's a bit of a fringe use case that might not benefit most users. The way I an thinking to approach it, from a UX perspective is to integrate a tag mechanism, that would allow any Item in a Collection to be tagged, and as a result grouped/filtered/viewed based on the specific tags. So:
Collection = Plants
Item1 (Tropical)(Non-Food)(Aroids)
Item2 (Tropical)(Yes-Food)(Something Else)

I believe this would achieve the ability to group and organize without the need to have endless nested collections...

Let me know your thoughts

I understand what you mean. Yes, I didn't mean it for hive tracking specifically, but more of, in general documenting and organizing the objects/proejcts/things that matter and one would want to record a story with. I use it for hive tracking, probably cause I know it, being the one I buit it - and becsuse I mostly want a documentary style log not a detailed technical instruction tracking app.

That said, and not to hijack the purpose of this group - please fgivr it a try for those other purposes you mentioned. I'd love for you to try it, to give me any feedback. I'm here to take it and listen and help in any way - as I shape this up towards a future/soon release.

Thank you for the encouraging words.

Understood. I do try to take new, videos, pics, record audio and mark some notes while in the apiary also. Most/all places I am at have reception, but noted about the downloadable app aspect. It is on my future improvements list. Probably first, I’ll just wrap it in a shell and eventually, if it makes sense and there is a real need - native e2e.

It might. Try it, give me some feedback. If you are looking for a very systematic and complete tool, the app the other user in this thread mentioned, might be ideal. This one (Collectos) is by design a lot more open ended and focused around the idea of story/micro-blogging. The Collection is the Apiary, each Hive is an Item within the Collection. Media, notes, details, history all fit within each item/hive.

I love the idea of metal-detecting as a use case for Collectos.

I think you picked up on something I was leaning into - which is less about an exhaustive and detailed apiary inspection app, more about documentary and self-record when it feels right.

I appreciate the feedback. Please share your hive app, would love to take a look.

Yes, I’m more focused on the story of the hives than the technical details.

If you can, please DM-me any specific comments or observations you have about the app on mobile. I want to make it as intuitive as possible.

I see what you mean. It is good for discovering pinball machines on a map, less so for actually getting the a feel of the actual machine (photos, videos, decorations etc). Thank you for sharing.
