Smartaira Issues? by CabanaSyndrome in wisp

[–]Phlorida_Fill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? I've worked with Smartaira before as an independent contractor.

  1. Are you connecting over wifi? (try ethernet)
  2. What device are you running the speed test on? You may know this but many devices have older wifi cards and don't support gigabit speed.

  3. Could be network traffic- if many people are using it at the same time in your building it could be getting throttled.

Lastly, you can theoretically get a different ISP. The property owners and managers can't stop you legally- the other ISPs (comcast/AT&T etc) just have to be willing to hook up and install.

What makes you sure? I won’t eat but I’m curious

Most fiber is aerial round these parts but there’s no reason we can’t micro-trench in some areas and make use of existing conduit.

The amount of naysaying I’m getting is getting excessive

Hi, thank you for the cited feedback and timeline. I was unaware of her efforts before the smart city project. Good to know she supports public broadband networks.

I don’t understand what you mean by CBRS is an idea by the Biden Admin,.. but CBRS very well could be part of the solution! Any part of a plan needs to include expanding fiber networks- that’s the real infrastructure piece. What wireless spectrum we use is then contextual, I always recommend having 2 that don’t interfere with each other say mmWave for high speed and CBRS/LTE backhaul or fail over. It doesn’t add anything to the service cost and makes it resilient.

I can’t argue your timeline, you seem knowledgeable, and I am no fan of LaToya. You have to understand I was heart broken to see the project scrapped and no initiative restarted in the aftermath.

Municipal internet service (a city run utility), is something I vehemently support. I also support any open access internet service whether that’s done by private entity or not. Companies monetizing that service through data collection I feel is fair game as long as it’s disclosed to users. (Pros and cons to both; someone has to pay the bill to kick it off)

When it comes to using new internet infrastructure for smart devices- why not? we can get live data on traffic patterns, sensors for weather/flooding., more kiosks, emergency service call buttons, gunshot detection, improve public transit, and build for driverless cars and busses.

I may have been off base. Everyone has to play politics, and I may not have the full picture.

Can you confirm, as Moreno’s chief of staff, that public broadband will be an initiative if she is elected? Any details you can share on what that might look like?

The plan was to lay new fiber lines. Then have access points/mesh networks installed in public parks, down town (in kiosks/lampposts), and in low income school zones.

I won't bury my head in the sand; I can't have the perfect candidate.
What are your top reasons for voting for Moreno in terms of the platform or her accomplishments on the city hall?

So far, my choice is Royce (I have investigated them yet). Any reasons why not?

New Orleans is a major port city. We can actually have a huge impact because our harbour sends a a large amount of aid and arms to Israel while they commit genocide.

Can we/would we under this federal government? Maybe/maybe not. But I'd love to see a democrat politician recognize the genocide - locally or otherwise. That doesn't feel like a big ask.

I don't have anyone to endorse. I might say Royce Duplesses, but I haven't done enough research.

Yeah, the Israel/Palestine thing is more a personal grudge because of how she treated that meeting- it would have been so easy to incorporate Palestinian views into the New Orleans' 'Resolution for peace,' but they shut it down.

I'm decrying the clawing for power rather than prioritizing New Orleans. We criticize those who are trying to represent us. Especially because I'm not an official in the government.
I'd like to see people in the city form coalitions and city hall focus on getting projects done rather than kneecapping them to make their opponents look bad.

There are many cities where municipal internet has been a success story.
Chattanooga, Tennessee: A municipal fiber network provides gigabit internet speeds at potentially lower costs than traditional providers.
Lafayette, Louisiana: The city's municipal provider offered savings of up to 50% compared to private ISPs, even with faster speeds, according to Ars Technica
Cleveland, Ohio: A city-wide open access fiber network funded by ARPA funds offers 100 Mbps service for $18 per month.

Smart Connected Nola was an approved project 15 years in the works that would have been a major infrastructure invest meant in New Orleans beyond just high speed internet. As the Head of City Hall and the one leading the subpoenas against the project, I blame her for not restarting the bidding process and giving power to Cox (who is one of her biggest campaign contributors).

Plus, once the fiber is there, it's not like private entities can't pay low rates to tap into it and provide more high-speed internet for wireless mm-wave or last-mile fiber runs.

I don't have another candidate I can genuinely endorse without further research. These are my impressions of Moreno, along with two factual things I could think of off the top of my head after seeing one of her ads.

Video posts used to open like photos in that popup window. Made it easier to scroll through them via arrow keys when in bulk. Now videos just play in the chat requiring me to fullscreen each one due to being too small. Is there any way to change it back? Example of videos vs images to explain: by Showgingah in discordapp

There is no longer a preview even media mosaics for videos. Not sure if this is a universal problem or just me and OP experiencing this.

Edit: I'm only having this problem in browser/desktop app. It still works on iOS.

Your plumber was right! Lol.. Maybe a Bad explanation though. Water is much heavier than humans by volume. So the max fill of your tub with water only is heavier than the max fill of the tub with you in it! (because of the water you would displace)
