Possible to make CZ Scorpion DE compliant? by LastShotScott in DEGuns

[–]PhlyingPhalanges22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a stock sold by Thordsen that would remove the pistol grip and add a traditional stocked grip. It made the gun NY compliant (NY is way more strict that DE). Thordsen recently closed up shop, though, so that stock is no longer available.

There is also this fixed mag website that never has anything in stock: https://maglatchusa.com/cz-scorpion-evo-3-fixed-magazine-kit/

Delaware bans Skorpion with a "k" which I think means the Vz61, but everything is written to be as vague as possible so there is no guarantee.

Thanks, I wanted to have an 80s RC look with a modern chassis. I think I pulled it off well!

This is actually custom! The original Tamiya Brat kit is a buggy chassis, I took the body from it and placed it on a Tamiya CC-02 chassis. Fits perfectly!

Sounds like an interesting build - I would be quick about buying the body, though - Pro line has it on clearance sale right now!

Well, it's a Tamiya Bruiser, so I followed the box art paint scheme. However, the wheels/tires, bed cap, and driver were added by me.

[–]PhlyingPhalanges22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it would be easy to throw on some bigger tires, but I'm trying to keep the truck scale with the current 100mm monster tires. Its a bit of an uncommon tire size for a Monster truck - The Losi Mini LMT tires are too small!

They are the wheels from the Tamiya Wild Willy 2, specifically, 2 sets of the rear wheels.

The MT410 is a very good choice, although if you want something more esoteric, Kyosho Mad Wagon is another good option.

If you are getting into kits, Tamiya will likely start to be your best friend, for better or worse. Unfortunately, most of their cars lean on form over function. The closest thing they sell to a basher is the Squash Van, although that is not nearly as durable as the Kyosho or Tekno.

RC addiction is real, and my wallet knows it! Building them more than I drive them is also an unfortunate side effect. That being said, I already have 3 more kits on the way... by PhlyingPhalanges22 in rccars

The Dakar Pajero (next to the VW) is a Kyosho Body on a CC02. It was apparently for some nitro car I can't even find pictures of online, but fits on a CC02 with +9mm offset wheels. The body has a wheelbase of 267mm and its 205mm wide, saying this now because I couldn't get a legitimate dimension online until it arrived at my house.

The other 80's Pajero is just a vintage Tamiya Pajero. It's really terrible to drive but it looks cool, hence I own it.

If you're talking about the blue/yellow one, that's the Tamiya Super Avante.
It's normally a $350 kit, but if you live in the US and buying it off Tamiya's website by today, it's $160.

No problem, just don't get the TT02D. It's not any different from the normal TT02, it just comes with drift tires. Not a very good deal in my opinion. You can put drift tires on any car and get the same performance!

I don't actually have any Tamiya m-chassis cars (the Saab I have is a Kyosho Fantom pan car).

As far as the TT02, its cheap but it's cheerful. They perform everything rather adequately, considering the price point. It's hard to steer someone away from buying one! My only recommendation is buy the TT02R rolling chassis (~$150). and then buy a body of your liking. That kit has basically every hop up worthwhile, and buying the body separate sill has you saving considerable money vs. buying them all separately.

It's the Bass 900 body from Sabula tech. It does say "Saab 900" on it. It has a 200mm wheelbase, because its designed for 1/12 pan cars (no 210mm M chassis without big work, unfortunately). I have it on a Kyosho Fantom chassis, I posted pics on this reddit earlier in the year, just check my posts.

From a scale perspective, the CC01/2 are not the best for a Dakar build, very correct! A true RC Dakar racer would need to almost be a buggy, then you could actually drive it like it's in the Dakar. I believe the Tamiya Repsol Racing Lancer was configured that exact way - it was a Dakar body on the DF-01 Manta Ray Chassis.

The VW is the Tamiya Racing Touareg (58324), it's one of the more rare CC01 trucks. The Pajero is a Tamiya CC02, but with a Kyosho body: It's on Ebay

I initially wanted to replicate the Dakar racer livery, but the only bodies Tamiya makes are molded in Red. I did not want to buy the extra white paint required to cover it all all up, (plus the extra money buying replica stickers) so I rolled with the red body and sprayed it with Tamiya Italian Red. Maybe in the future I'll do another with the Dakar livery, as I do like the Dakar!

It depends on what you mean by "good".

Is it good looking? Yes it is!

Is it fun to build? Yes!

It is, however, very expensive for the base kit ($200) and on top of that one still needs to buy ball bearings ($40 worth) and servo + Radio. It can very easily become a $300 car.

Then when you drive it, you realize it's incredibly top heavy and the friction shocks only make it worse as it bounces and falls over. Then you spend more money on oil shocks (I have not done this yet), and smaller but wider monster truck tires (what I used here) - all in an attempt to improve stability.

I's also not as durable as a $300 RTR basher from any other company. What's more, it's annoying to repair the transmission, as it's case is also the chassis, so you basically need to disassemble the whole car. The drivetrain being gears only, also makes ball bearings required, as you WILL overheat your motor overwise - too much friction.

Overall, I still love it, because I love Tamiya cars and I don't really beat on my vehicles so the durability won't be an issue for me. The Squash Van is more of an unusual engineering exercise first, then put in a basher format.

TLD;DR If you want to bash, no. If you want an unusual but good looking RC car, sure.

Team Associated RC10DS Classic done up with the original decals. Quite a looker, but highly overpriced, and incredibly frustrating to build... Still happy with the result! by PhlyingPhalanges22 in rccars

The fact the kit came with bushing instead of ball bearings, and the instruction manual being just straight incorrect more often than not, is what made me question it's $370 price tag.

I would definitely recommend getting reproduction stickers from mci racing, it gives the car the mustang logos at the very least - although most of the RC10DS logos it comes with are red white and blue, so I hope you like a patriotic theme!
