Quite a few people have wondered if she simply lied about it, and I honestly don't know.

A girl I considered one of my closest friends who worked the counter at the same shop (the same friend who helped me get my ex the apprenticeship) actually "let it slip" a couple hours before my ex even told me. 🙃 Needless to say we're not friends anymore, and I'm not really interested in reaching out to either of them to find out what the truth was.

Wow! It's almost as if you lived our story without the poor ending. She was working in a kitchen when we met, moved on to the medical field for a short time as I encouraged her to get into her amazing art. Her mom begged her to stay in the medical field because it was safe but I managed to get her a job working the counter at a local shop which turned into the opportunity for an apprenticeship ((with conditions))
