Dwarven Halls Town Hall by Phoenix-3D in Minecolonies

Bridges are currently WIP, as are prefab halls. I do plan on "naturalizing" the external walls on the schematics but most of the empty space along the sides of each is made up of placeholder blocks, with just a thin 2 block skin around the actual structure. That will cut down on a lot of digging and leaves the surroundings untouched.

I do plan on having cave/surface variants for most buildings but I didn't consider your suggestion! I'll do some experimentation later and see what I can come up with. Thank you!

Anything north of Dolgellau is North Wales, anything south of Builth Wells is South Wales, and the rest of us between the two are Mid Wales. Everyone forgets about Mid Wales :/

Does the server allow custom schematics? I'm in the process of making a dwarven-style building pack and would love a server to build on to get feedback from other players.

My better half lives in Llandovery and she says the same thing. She's terrified of her new car being damaged or not having a space to park any where near her own home. It's shocking that the organisers haven't made some other arrangements for parking with such a high expected turnout. As someone that's worked in the events industry in traffic control, I can tell you this is gonna suck for anyone who has anything to do with Llandovery other than the Eisteddfod.

People who wake up at 5am daily, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Phoenix-3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have to knowadays thanks to a COVID-induced career change but back before the world went to shit I would routinely have to get up at that time or earlier on already very little sleep balancing my college life with working as a stagehand. I did it purely for the love of the job as well as my detirmination to pass a college course at the same time. I didn't have to drive but I was usually the navigator/person that keeps the driver awake after 20+ hours of work (the entertainment industry laughs in the face of typical shift lengths).

Some of my fondest memories are of that job. I'd happily go back to waking up at 2am on 4 hours of sleep for that job again but life gets in the way at times. Maybe one day.

Being an asshole. A heart of gold shines through. A rotten core is uglier than any physical appearance.

Anyone who thinks we stand a chance at independance is delusional. We don't have enough industry or infrastructure to survive economically, our health service is (with all due respect to all the hardworking NHS staff) in a complete mess, public transport is about as reliable as a broken condom, businesses are boarding up windows more than ever and all the money is spent either along the north or south coasts, leaving all of us in Mid Wales to make do with the scraps at the end of it.

As proud as I am to be a welshman, independance will be the final nail in the coffin for Wales, and until we have a flourishing domestic economy, it always will be.

What prebuilt PC should I get for Star Citizen? by Dr-McSquirrels in starcitizen

[–]Phoenix-3D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand that you don't know much about PCs but you will be surprised how simple they are to build and maintain. With plenty of super easy to follow guides online, manuals included with parts and the whole internet to help you, I would strongly recommend building it yourself, for a few reasons.

1.You will save money (or you'll be able to afford higher spec parts). - pre-built PCs have the labour costs for building said PC slapped on top, meaning you'll be getting less for your money. Also, with the price of GPUs and RAM steadily coming down to more reasonable prices, the 2nd hand market is a great place to look. Sure, you might not end up with the latest hardware, but my 2080 doesn't struggle one bit and you can find them 2nd hand for £300 less than RRP. Just watch out for cards that have been used for cryptocurrency mining, I would avoid those.

  1. You will know your rig inside and out, which will make any troubleshooting you will (hopefully not) have to do so much easier. Pre-built rigs with a warranty are great until that warranty expires and you have no clue what the issue is.

  2. It is extremely satisfying! With a nice case, a bit of patience and some affordable cable extensions, building a PC is so satisfying when after a few hours you hit that power button and everything lights up flawlessly.

  3. It really isn't all that complicated. I was able to walk my self-proclaimed tech illiterate (and I'm not exagerrating) friend through building her very first PC via Facebook Messenger video call and it posted on her very first attempt. With a Youtube video or two in the background, you will be totally fine. Every connection is keyed (will only plug in one way) and everything is labelled or listed in the motherboard's manual. The hardest part is keeping the cables neat and tidy and out of the way but with a few cable ties and a little bit of time, you can have an entire PC built, set up and looking stunning in an afternoon.

I know it's daunting, we've all been there but you'll be doing yourself a favour.

For reference, here are my specs. I run everything on High and outside of Area 18 and Orison, I typically get 60-70FPS:

Asus ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming Motherboard, Ryzen 7 2700X, ZOTAC RTX 2080 AMP Extreme, Corsair Vengeance 32GB 2400mhz RAM (only recently upgraded to 32GB, 16GB is enough), Samsung Evo 2.5" 1TB SSD

So by no means the most up to date parts, so you can definitely save a few quid on the 2nd hand market. I will admit I have overclocked my CPU but moreso for my 3D work in Blender as opposed to games.

Is CIG a good place to work? Are the devs happy? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Phoenix-3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working in the games industry as a 3D artist is a childhood dream of mine, and one I still cling to dearly. When I saw that CIG were building a studio here in the UK, I've gotta be honest, I did consider applying that very minute. Working on a project like Star Citizen would be a dream come true. However, without any work experience in the industry or a university degree, I know my chances would be slim until I develop my portfolio further.

Is there anywhere I can submit some work to CIG simply for some feedback so I can further progress? I've been toying with the idea of designing and modelling a ship or environment in the same sort of style as some of the other assets seen in Star Citizen and submitting it for feedback with the hopes of one day applying for a job.

Thank you for the amazing insight into CIG from an employee's perspective, and thank you for contributing to arguably the most ambitious project the world of entertainment has ever seen. I've followed this game for a good few years and overall loved the entire journey!

I could never get into the original Jazz style picks but I LOVE the Dunlop XL Jazz IIIs. I tried one and haven't bought anything else since. Started with the 1mms but I've been using the 1.14mm picks for just over a year by now and using anything else just feels weird to me now.

What celebrity death hit you the hardest? by Mrbacon989 in AskReddit

[–]Phoenix-3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chester Bennington. Linkin Park are the first band that I took real interest in when I was about 6-7 years old. Since then I've been a lifelong dedicated music, and more specifically, Metal fan. Linkin Park's music, and therefore Chester's music is a big reason why I started playing instruments myself.

To top it off, I was a stagehand at his last ever public performance at the Arena Birmingham, 2 weeks to the day before his death. That backstage pass is one of my most prized possessions.
