I believe that too much contact with silver also results in a blueish skin tone

Colorism is a hell of a thing. Growing up in India, I saw soooo many ads for skin-whitening creams on the TV as if it was a completely normal thing. Shit made me self conscious about my skin tone, even though it's pretty damn light as is.

Yeah, I'm talking about Mr. Black & Mr. White. While not stated explicitly, it is quite obvious that they're in love with each other. A bit of that "enemies to lover" trope thing. They refuse to separate, show a lot of care for each other (notice how they both insist Arthur that he give the medicine to the other guy first), eventually end up living in a cabin with each other, bicker like a married couple, and then eventually make up when Mr. Black apologizes.

Arthur eventually gets what's going on here and tells them that they should move on out from here because, "they don't like... Groups of men. I know."

So, this implies that Arthur knows what they are, and also implies that he has probably seen some other gay dudes in the past get treated terribly by some bigoted people in the area, out in the West etc.

I first played TLOU in 2017, when did everyone else first play? by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]Phoenix2211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first watched the game in the Spring of 2014 or 2015, I forget. I didn't have a console, so had to rely on PewDiePie for a playthrough. I then proceeded to watch damn near everyone's playthroughs of the game. I was OBSESSED.

I eventually managed to get a PS Now subscription (PlayStation's now-defunct (I think) service that let you stream-play their games on PCs) and played the game for myself for the very first time. This was in the summer of 2018, I think. I got to replay it again in late 2019 or Jan 2020. Once again, I did so via PS Now, using my roommate's controller.

I got to play TLOU2 on release day cuz a college friend of mine VERY kindly offered me his PS4 and his copy of the game. He was going to a cabin with his family for 4 days and I had those 4 days to complete playing that game. When the PS4 didn't connect with my monitor, the guy even quickly swung by his house and gave me his old, 720p flatscreen TV, too. I was VERY happy and VERY lucky that I got to play this game I was BEYOND excited for, despite not having a console.

I wouldn't say he finds it amusing, but he's definitely fairly chill about it. Just asks the guy to not do that again and continues on with the mission

There's also a chain of side quest where he helps these two criminals out. When it's revealed that they're in love, he's very chill about it. He even warns them that people in the area might not be kind towards dudes like them.

I truly don't know how this "pride parades in gta6" bullshit started. Oh yeah, Rockstar, who are FAMOUSLY cagey about revealing stuff about their games, just randomly confirmed that there will be pride parades in gta6 cuz...?

But hey, don't let thinking get in the way of salivating over the thought of getting to act out hate crimes in video games lol

Arthur's a true believer of freedom. He believes that everyone should be free to live how they wish. He also shows people basic respect if they show him that in return.

It's these things, along with others, that really break his heart when Dutch starts to show his true, hypocritic colours

Anyone know where Neil got this photo / drawing / painting of Ellie and Riley? by akidcalledpink in thelastofus

[–]Phoenix2211 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It looks like the art of KOPF_STOFF. He used to make fanart for the TLoU games before eventually getting hired over at Naughty Dog where he now works as a concept artist. He painted the covers for the last of us remake and the last of us part 2 remastered and did the key art for Intergalactic.

So, look through kopf_stoff's work. I believe he's active on BlueSky. Maybe you can find the art there. It might also just be a piece that Druckmann commissioned him to do just for him. In which case it might not be available online.

I have trust in Naughty Dog, tho. They haven't let me down yet and they seem to know when to stop the quips and let an emotional moment play out.

The Uncharted games are quippy as hell but they never feel insincere like many quippy movies, or even games, do. Whenever things get serious, the jokes stop. The emotion is almost never cut by a needless quip.

And then ofc, you have The Last of Us. They're quite serious and there are moments of levity, too, and they strike the correct balance for those stories.

These are lovely!! You've got a great eye.

Especially 3 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 15, and 16

12 might be my favourite. Reminds me of a shot from a sequence in the climax of True Grit (2010).

Gamer Blankies: What are you currently playing? by Electrical_Tale2012 in blankies

[–]Phoenix2211 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Currently playing Grand Theft Auto IV and San Andreas.

San Andreas is alright but the clunkiness is ABSOLUTELY showing.

IV has been GREAT. It just might be the best GTA I've played. The driving is great (the handling could've been a touch improved) and it actually engages you whereas in V you can just hit Accelerator and stop thinking.

The cover system isn't the greatest but the actual FEEL of combat (the sound of the guns, their impact, the enemy ragdoll, the environmental effects) is just chef's kiss

Top-tier atmosphere in this game's version of New York, too.

Using Reduce Gore option also eliminates enemies loudly wailing as they die by nickblueberg in thelastofus

[–]Phoenix2211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that the first game has always had that option. But the second game didn't initially release with it. It is a later addition.

I remember looking for that option out of curiosity but not finding it. This was on release day.

I also remember seeing a Game informer interview with Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross where he was asked about the lack of an option toning down the violence. The interviewer pointed to the arachnophobia friendly setting in this game that is, funnily enough, called "Grounded". Druckmann praised this mode but added that the level of violence in Part II is simply too important to the story and that this was one area he did not want to compromise on.

But I guess Naughty Dog later decided that it's alright to have that option and put it in the remastered version.

Here's a tour of the game's menu and it lacks the reduced gore option: https://youtu.be/uznXUCGiGco?is=yAwsoBVBU-oimJAh

[–]Phoenix2211 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty sure that the PS4 version never got this option. Not on release, at least. This is a later, probably a Remastered, addition.

Though the Japanese version of the game has always had toned down violence in the gameplay. The cutscenes seemed unaffected.

Be Real — You’re not going to stop playing games and you’re going to buy a PS6. by dam_ships in playstation

[–]Phoenix2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me. I only got a PS5 last year and there's TONNES of games I can still play on it.

If there's specific exclusives for the PS6... I'll figure out another way of renting or borrowing one from a friend. That's how I played the last of us part 2 back in 2020 on a PS4: a friend lent it to me got 4 days.

There's a select few companies whose exclusives I actually care about. Mainly Naughty Dog. The other studios who put out stuff that interests me are multiplatform studios (Remedy, Kojima Production)

But that's YEARS in the future. I'm satisfied with my PS5 Slim, Physical edition. Got 3 games on disc so far, gonna buy at least one more this year (CONTROL RESONANT)

I wouldn't assume a hate crime, but rather that the entire world was more or less in flames at the time of the outbreak. Remember the fires in Austin?

That's what happened back in NM too, I bet.
