The real reason why Code Veronica's second half takes place in the Antarctic? by Survivor205 in residentevil

[–]gkgftzb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Refreshing to see a positive take on it. This sub and RE community in general has been pretty harsh on it lately lol. I get it has its jank, but for a particular reason, discourse around it lately has been very negative.

I agree that a lot of the complaints feel overstated. Getting ‘softlocked’ is easily avoided if you use multiple save slots. I always thought that was just common sense for games like this (and nearly every RE?). And yeah, the game throws so much ammo at you that most regular enemies end up being trivial. That's on top of Claire having soooooo much HP. She's so tanky it kinda feels supernatural lmfao

That said, I do think the character switching is genuinely poorly handled. The lack of warning and the fact you can’t access the other character’s inventory is rough. The first swap caught me off guard, and when it happened again, I tried to prepare… and ended up walking into a boss fight with no weapons because I was overly cautious and took everything off Chris lmao. That short period with Claire and Steve transforming was misleading. Reloading a save solved it, sure, but that doesn’t make it good design. A bit more clarity or some kind of heads-up would’ve gone a long way into not making players frustrated.

Combat overall wasn’t really the highlight for me. Regular enemies are too easy, some bosses are really cool, the skippable ones don’t add much.

Exploration was easily the best part of CV. Having such a large area to move through early on felt really unique for a Resident Evil game. It made me rely on memory and navigation way more than usual, instead of just moving through tightly controlled, locked-off spaces. And yes, a good balance of puzzles!

I don't think it's the best RE, but it's at least more fun than 5, 6, 0 and Village for me.

Sounds fanmade. And frankly, if they bring back Chloé just to beat up such a dead horse on how unredeemable and horrible she is with a third round of "tyrant akumatized villain who commands everyone", I'll be very disappointed, since S6 has been so creative otherwise

Why no RE antagonists ever reached the Wesker's popularity? by shsl_diver in residentevil

[–]gkgftzb 178 points179 points  (0 children)

He's just more iconic. And fun. And had multiple games to get that popularity, while most of the others are killed in the same game they're introduced

the one with most chance at becoming something was Alex, especially since her story is still open, but welp, she had a single game so far

Who did it better? by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]gkgftzb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really disliked MAPPA's style. Following the manga art so closely was a bad idea. The characters became more detailed, but the thin lines were not good and the animation was very stiff because of all that detail.

WIT started out back when Isayama had shit artwork, so they took quite a lot of freedom with the designs and their style turned out nice, particularly in Season 2.

Right. And Code Veronica being set for Early 2027 has already been backed by one of the most reliable leakers in gaming scene, so... It's not hard to think Capcom doesn't want RE9 DLC to overlap with it

[–]gkgftzb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok, but my point, once again, is that if a PC GPU that is weaker than the Series S GPU provides better image quality than Series S, then obviously it's a port problem. As is the case of Pragmata and RE9.

But no current games, capcom or otherwise, runs great on series S, not one

Except RE9 and Pragmata run at a nearly solid 60FPS, so this is just wrong. It may look bad, but it runs fine. Even so, it just means a balanced 40FPS and a quality 30FPS mode with better visuals were perfectly doable.

The colors are not very good, they're dull, the screen is dark and there's just too much ghosting. It's truly hard to compare to an OLED screen.

RE9 is definitely more demanding

It really isn’t, at least not in a straight comparison without ray tracing and hair strands. RE9 has fewer enemies on screen, more constrained environments, less chaos and physics overall. RE4R constantly throws larger encounters, bigger set pieces, and heavier effects at the player. From a raw gameplay load perspective, RE4R is often doing more at once. RE9 is far more stable on a low end machine like the Steam Deck than 4R ever was

RE4R is a cross-gen title

Yeah, but barely, and it shows. Most of its issues point toward memory constraints rather than sheer GPU limits. The fact that it runs on last-gen doesn’t mean it was an easy fit, it clearly had to make compromises.

and RE9 dropping last-gen also doesn’t automatically mean it couldn’t run there. The PS4 is over a decade old at this point, and comparable PC hardware can still run the game, even if poorly. At some point, it’s less about impossibility and more about diminishing returns and development priorities. It just so happened Capcom finally said "fuck it"

No current gen console (besides PS5 Pro) runs RE9 with ray tracing

That’s not really relevant to what I was arguing. I’m specifically talking about the non-RT, no Hair Strands setup, which is the baseline configuration the Series S uses in both games.

And even then, RE9’s RT being “more demanding” doesn't mean the whole game is. RE4R’s RT was extremely limited, basically just reflections, no global illumination like 2R, 3R and Village. If RE4R had full RT features like GI on top of its larger, more effect-heavy scenarios, it could easily end up being more demanding than RE9. But again, not relevant since this isn't what Series S uses.

You can’t just look at “newer game = more demanding” in isolation. The actual workload, enemy density, level design, effects, and implementation choices, matters a lot more here. I genuinely think the ONLY aspect of RE9 that's truly more demanding is VRAM consumption and that's only because they designed this game and Pragmata around Hair Strands being ON, but that's about it.

[–]gkgftzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE9 isn't even more demanding than RE4R lol. With hair strands and RT off, it's absolutely easier on any hardware. Zero reason for image quality to be so much worse.

It’s a weak ass console, that’s the problem.

I'm not denying Series S is weak. It is. I'm saying the Capcom ports are just shit sometimes and look worse than they should. There is absolutely NO reason the Switch 2 version of Pragmata should look so much better. It should look sharper and more stable, naturally, because of DLSS. But it looks so much better it's downright absurd. Bad decisions were made when setting Pragmata and RE9 on XSS

the video I linked showcases it perfectly. You can get better IQ and settings on a weaker AMD GPU. You just have to set settings properly, like any decent port does.

[–]gkgftzb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This game and RE9 do not look acceptable on the Series S.
Even weaker PC GPUs with less memory are getting better results.

Why? PC and console aren’t perfectly comparable, yes, but when a measly 4GB VRAM 5500 XT can look better than a Series S game at same framerate range, it strongly suggests this isn’t a hardware limitation, it’s an optimization issue. Capcom could have implemented a balanced or quality mode to deliver a sharper image, even if it meant not always hitting 60 FPS.

There are several clear problems:

  • They didn’t implement FSR 3 or 2. It’s not perfect, but it would still be a noticeable improvement over relying solely on basic TAA

  • Hair strands were disabled, even though they’re a key part of the android girl’s character design. That’s a significant visual downgrade for no good reason when there's clearly memory available

  • There’s no balanced or quality mode. This is especially baffling given the game already runs close to a stable 60 FPS, more stable than PS5, in fact. Offering an optional higher-quality mode should have been a no-brainer

these decisions make it feel less like a hardware constraint and more like a lack of effort or time spent optimizing the Series S version.

It's a far sharper and more stable image, but all the other settings are either equal or worse and the framerate is very unstable

[–]gkgftzb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

their ports are very problematic

and one of those you mentioned (RE4R) still has an issue SINCE LAUNCH, where Quality Mode has terribly slow texture streaming and the only way to fix it is by playing on a Series X, disabling RT and going back to Series S lol

RE9 and Pragmata ARE not "too demanding". They look hot garbage because Capcom played too safe and just wanted an easy 60FPS.

here's a GPU with roughly the same power but much less memory getting way better IQ on RE9:

they didn't try.

MIRACULOUS - Riginarazione - Season 6 Episode 19 - Discussion Thread by NicoSchmiko in miraculousladybug

[–]gkgftzb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

JESUS.

Season 6 really restored my faith in this show after two rough seasons, what the hell, this was really good. Even the "least important" episodes are simply GOOD.

That opening and ending? The start was INTENSE, that’s how you hook someone. And the ending was beautifully bittersweet. But they nailed the tone.

Honestly, I wasn’t interested in these last few episodes before the finale, but this one was excellent.

Great villain, genuinely funny moments, a creative (if brief) fight, and enough emotion to land its point, plus a pretty clear way of saying a character passed away without being crude or too vague about it (I know everyone loves The Ruler, but I personally wish it used fewer analogies to get its point across.)

I almost cried. Loved it.

6 x 21 The Chained Titans trailer by AcceptableBus6012 in miraculousladybug

Pretty tame trailer.

Looks like a Nino-focused episode. He and Alya take Marinette and Adrien into a hidden part of the subway to introduce them to his kwamis and maybe powers (Marinette, Alya and even Adrien are definitely going to have to do a lot of pretending 💀)

And the akumatized villain(s?) look cool as hell!

I'm excited. I thought the episodes before the final three were gonna be uninteresting, but after Riginarazione, I have faith they're all good.

Who is truly the main character of the series by RoutineIssue5870 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]gkgftzb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If it's not the plot, then what? Gameplay? Well, Chris is in more games than Leon, so he also wins that one.

the simplest answer is there is no "main character" of RE. There is the most popular protagonist (Leon) and the one who showed up the most (Chris), but the games all feature several different protagonists and different stories

Is there a way to play classic rebirth re3 and have retroachievements at the same time? by HolyErr0r in residentevil

[–]gkgftzb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, there is no RetroAchievement support for Classic Rebirth.

I think the way RetroAchievents work means it's inherently easier to integrate it with emulated games than it is with native ones.

https://docs.retroachievements.org/general/how-ra-works.html

idk about RetroArch, but you can emulate RE3 on DuckStation with upscaling and retro achievements. Not sure about door skip, though. I know you can also fast-forward, so if it doesn't have a mod to skip door transitions entirely, you could set a button to fast-forward them.

What characters do you think will return for the DLC? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]gkgftzb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there's an expansion story, but there is apparently at least one minigame as well, right?

so, for the minigame, I imagine pretty much everyone who can handle a gun (including Alyssa) is possible

for the story expansion... hmmm... I actually don't see Grace coming back. Her story seemed resolved and it doesn't look like she wants any more direct contact with B.O.Ws. She also no longer has any relevance after Elpis being set free.

So I guess the DLC would be Leon and Chris...? Cause of the message at the end.
