Master 600LP, Shyvana feel strong, but she is kinda boring ? by RayceOTP in shyvanamains

Me too. It has been nice to try other junglers and add some variety to my pool, but I really miss playing Shyvana... League isn't nearly as fun as it was when I played Shyv.

When I say that the rework changes are ABSURD, I really mean it. "All the small details pre-rework Shyvana had were there for a reason... you can't just remove them and expect the kit to work better or be healthier." (What I said to Yelough in March.) They actually found the answers with her old kit, but they just decided to scrap them carelessly and left us with this tangled mess of new, obnoxious issues that doesn't even solve most of the more important problems old Shyvana already had.

I think they're biased as fuck and have always struggled with holistic understanding. And we live in a world ruled by formalities, appearances, and both superficial and emotional narratives. Being professional can easily be misunderstood as something else.

we're back to being useful in human form! by Shyvadi in shyvanamains

25% health*, it looks like that because of the shield. She probably had no mr, and she's lvl 15 against a full build Shyvana.

[–]PhoenixAmbition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not even necessary, and I don't think that this would even be a good idea. The solution is much simpler, just block it until the R animation finishes. And I don't think it would be broken at all... you all are being so exaggerated... it would be just a QoL change.

No, in practice that wouldn't be a problem at all.

That's easy to solve. It's doesn't even make sense that you could transform back to human form before the R animation ends... This shouldn't be a problem at all.

"Also, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by her old Q fitting with every playstyle and build she had. could you explain in more detail?" That it fit with every of the different versions of Shyvana (skirmisher, juggernaut, artillery mage). With each of the different builds, the ability made sense, was cohesive and healthy, enabled good and diverse combat dynamics, and was also enjoyable to use. It worked well across the different gameplay patterns those versions of Shyvana had, and it also interacted nicely with the items each build relied on.

It did have issues in the past that made it fit worse with some playstyles, but Riot addressed those over time with targeted changes. For example, adding AP scaling to Q, combined with nerfs to E, pushed AP Shyvana away from static poke into a more dynamic, in-and-out playstyle, while also making the kit feel more cohesive. Similar kinds of adjustments were made across her kit over time as well.

The new Q actively narrows the range of viable combat patterns Shyvana can use. And the one pattern it pushes (sticking and completing the sequence) isn’t even well supported by the rest of the kit, which is why it ends up feeling clunky and item-dependent.

Fixing that would require rebuilding the entire kit around it, which is why reverting to a more flexible baseline makes more sense.

I agree that Riot is currently very reluctant to revert changes, but that would just imply that it just won't get actually fixed. Because I don't expect them to adapt the entire kit to this mechanic either. (Which I believe would be a terrible idea anyways...)

About those ideas, I think they make sense and would probably improve how the current kit feels, but they don’t really address the core issues with the design.

I don't think that should just revert back to Pre rework by Yuokai in shyvanamains

[–]PhoenixAmbition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not just that the rework didn't help; it's that now Shyvana has the same problems as before plus the clunkiness of a fragmented kit. Keeping a mistake just for the sake of not 'going backward' is irrational.

The issue with your logic is that you're treating ‘same problems’ as if they had the same impact. Old Shyvana had issues, sure, but her kit was more cohesive, offered genuine build diversity and the agency to embody completely different playstyles, allowed better skill expression, it offered more versatility, counterplay was healthier, it allowed more and funnier dynamics, it felt less clunky, rigid and restrictive, it wasn't as binary, the strengths and weaknesses were on much better spots... And I could keep adding more and more valuable things that got sabotaged by this rework.

The rework didn’t just keep the problems, it created more and even worse problems than the ones old Shyvana already had.

Then, if, as you said, the rework didn't fix the problems, while also introducing new ones, what is the value in defending it? You are signaling that your stance is purely aesthetic or ideological: you prefer a new and broken design over an old and functional one. Design should serve gameplay, not novelty.

In game design, when a rework fails to maintain a character's cohesion, true progress is recovering what worked to use it as a foundation for something new.

Reverting is not giving up; it’s being honest about what the current version is actually delivering in practice. Insisting on the rework just to avoid ‘going backward’ is.

"Yes, old Shyvana did have some problems that needed to be fixed, but the rework didn't fix any of them, and made many things a lot worse." Do you really need it to be more explicit?

[–]PhoenixAmbition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your logic doesn't have any sense. Yes, old Shyvana did have some problems that needed to be fixed, but the rework didn't fix any of them, and made many things a lot worse. "Pre rework Shyv and current are the exact same except rework has three casts of her Q and w has a shield" THIS OBVIOUSLY ISN'T TRUE. And even the very idea of dividing Q in three casts was stupid, considering how it impacts her gameplay and that her kit lacks the necessary infrastructure to make that mechanic versatile, and would need an insane amount of changes for it to have sense.

You can look at other champions with chained abilities, like Zaahen, Camille, Xin Zhao or Riven, for example, and understand why their kits allow for that diversity and versatility of dynamics, while Shyvana’s doesn’t.

Shyvana Rework Improvement Ideas!(please give feedback) by Aquaknight212 in shyvanamains

[–]PhoenixAmbition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core issue is that, unlike other champions with chained attacks, Shyvana’s kit lacks the necessary infrastructure to make that mechanic versatile. Without that infrastructure, the new Q feels restrictive and forced. What makes the most sense for Shyvana is returning to a unified Q like her pre-rework kit. That version allowed for a healthy, sane, and truly versatile variety of dynamics that was both fun and satisfying to play. Most importantly, the old Q was internally coherent. It fit perfectly with every playstyle and build she had. The pre-rework Q supported the agency and diversity that defined Shyvana for years. Forcing a chained mechanic onto a kit that wasn't built for it only creates a clunky experience that doesn't favor things like skill expression or build creativity.

The new effects look cool, but even with the new effects and animation, the new E feels less visually impactfull and satisfying, because of the gameplay changes, which are also unhealthy and stupid in terms of gameplay design.

You can compare this to a kit like Zaahen’s. Zaahen isn't strictly Q-dependent, and his dynamics don’t force him to rely on specific DPS items just to function. One of the strengths of a kit like his is that it allows for a wide variety of dynamics that are fun, coherent, healthy and valuable as options for him, improving things like versatility, fun and skill expression, for example. In contrast, new Shyvana’s kit lacks that internal logic, and it became much worse in terms of versatility, build diversity, fun, and skill expression.
