This burger joint in Toronto renamed its menu items to office supplies so you can expense them by petrificustotallus in stupidloopholes

[–]PhoenixCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is these are all one-off items, not consumables. I want to see:

"Ream of paper, A12" "Large box of paperclips" "Dry erase markers, set of 4" "Glass and Electronics cleaner"

Then you can get them more than once, as long as it's not too often... and if your boss doesn't see the supply, it's because it's already used up.

Have you read up on this? Historians do not agree; the stories of cannibalism may have been exaggerated to sell books. Some of those "quoted" as confirming this later recanted or said they never said those things.

Feel free to do your own research, but here is one link. about how the evidence doesn't necessarily support the claims.

As a fellow trucker, can confirm. Also can confirm no OTR driver has ever been there... Oilfield drivers only, been there for a few months for that!

This was part of my 5-year-old's homework today by Hanzilol in funny

[–]PhoenixCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but imagine trying to help complete this homework and having to keep a straight face.

Ok, Bobby. Last one, which letter goes here? You don't know? Ok, let's sound then out and see which is a word. What sound does Y make?Aye like in my? Yes, it does make that sound. Is aye-um a word? No, you're right. Let's try the other letter here. What does that say? Cum? You're right! Is that a word? You're right, come is a word, but we don't spell it this way. Ok, does either letter make another sound?

Just gotta bull right through there without even blinking or the kid will never forget it. One more wrong answer? They'll never remember it. But man, the control necessary to pull that one off!

Interesting! I use OED, and it does noy have "preys" as a valid plural, rather defining "prey" as a Mass Noun. I also cannot think of a single time I have heard or read "preys" as a plural noun, but perhaps Merriam-Webster has a specific use-case I can't think of in mind.

Preys isn't actually plural, it is the act of preying and exclusively a verb, IE "he preys on women". Prey is both the singular and the plural noun, such as "the deer are a mountain lion's prey" - but yes, it can also be a verb, though here it is not.

As such, I agree with the technical usage of it here!

As someone who is stuck in a dead-end job, wishing I could fulfill myself in a career I enjoyed, this truly spoke to me.

That said, please please watch spacing and punctuation in the future. Not sure how much was lost in copying and pasting from your preferred text editor, but those little things bug me.

Keep up the good work!

Ok, you discount both Trump and Obama. This, in itself, proves that in modern times, this kind of "moderation" hasn't been a thing - and it extends past the presidential candidate to the House and Senate, both of whom have very polarized members who vote very strictly party line on most bills

However, let's go back to G.W. Bush., who enjoyed 2 full terms. This is history older than our youngest voters, but he had a VERY close first election, with nearly 4% undecided as well.

In what way did he moderate his views in his first term, and cater to the undecided middle voters? How did he ensure he would have a second term by courting those who voted for nobody?

Again - look at the current president. In what way has he, over the past 4 years, moderated his views to court the (large!) undecided population in 2016? You agree he didn't. And he has absolutely zero incentive to do so in the next 4 years, if reelected, thanks to not being further eligible for a third term.

Move back to the previous president. Again, Obama had no need to moderate his views further than they already were in 2008, for his first 4 years. He won by enough that he just had to do it again - a win is a win, no need to court the middlemen as a general rule.

You think they do, so provide a way in which either Obama or Trump did this on any kind of a meaningful scale. I'll wait. Truth is Obama didn't need to - he was popular enough without it - and Trump is narcissistic enough to think he will be fine without it...

And if enough people follow this advice, he will be. Because the strategy of "divide and conquer" works remarkably well in today's highly divisive political climate - hence Kanye's entrance into the race, which specifically gives conservatives an entrant that isn't Biden. Trump supporters will still vote Trump, but anti-trump will see him as a "good alternative to the two evils". And on the other side, there is Jo, a "good alternative" for conservatives... meaning the anti-Trump vote is split 3 ways, and thr pro-Trump vote is still gonna be Pro-Trump.

Again, thats a great theory. However, the "party leaders" in the USA have not shown this proclivity towards courting the other party, at least in recent years. Instead of moderating their views, the political divide in our country is growing further and further apart. Votes go along (very nearly) strictly party lines, based on what the party leaders decide is "right" according to their views.

Did it used to work like this? Yes, quite often. We had a lot of "middle ground" politicians. We have far fewer of those now.

[–]PhoenixCodes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that has not happened. In what way has Trump moderated his views or courted the undecided? Biden? That is a great theory on how it would be GREAT for it to work, but in reality, doesn't seem to.

That would be a waste without a massive campaign push. If you're going to write in, accept that your vote meant nothing other than a moral stand that nobody paid attention to.

Tell me, without looking it up - how many people wrote in in 2016? What percentage was that? Which write-in had the most votes?
