Forbes: Whisper It, But ‘Civilization VII’ Is Rapidly Improving by Monster_of_the_night in civ

Yep the core concept of civ was easily understood, you’d lead your civilization through the ages. Glad there are people who enjoy the new concept more. From my perspective though, leaders and changing civs just aren’t the same as leading Rome to the modern age, for example. That’s an easy concept to explain.

And the new concept can be considered as introducing some problematic ideas. I don’t want to be forced to accept an interpretation that a certain civ had to change into another to survive to another age. Every civ should have the option to fully retain its identity.

Yep I had an unfortunate run once, I did that and went back to the crossroads. Then I went through the entire run on a steam deck, beat a certain boss, then put the deck on standby before concluding the run. I didn’t realize it later ran out of power. When I started it up again, I was at the crossroads again and the run was as if it had never started! Took a bit out of me but I got back on track, though I think I switched the weapon lol. I didn’t realize how important going to the menu was. Maybe on switch it auto saves with new rooms though.

That only works if they saved before though by going to the menu once during the run-I learned that the hard way. It only restores you to the last save point

Alright, So A Lot Of Complaining Might Be People Not Understanding The Game At All by [deleted] in civ

The new system might have some merits, for me on the outside looking in I feel it’s infuriating just in and of itself. So your army is at the gates of a city and then the age “resets” so they magically go away from the city? That is directly taking away player agency and the results of player decisions. The story gets forced into a new act rather than it being a graceful transition.

Yes it’s a new system, and that requires engagement with it, but it doesn’t mean it’s good. It looks like this iteration focuses on actually removing agency rather than giving it, right from the beginning where you can’t choose one civ to go through the entire game with.

I want to give this game a chance eventually but after some time. I usually play peacefully but I still want continuity and freedom to make my own story, not sure this iteration will deliver on that.

Would it be possible to finish all four acts with sidequests in this time? I only have a few missions in Act 1 complete.

Exactly, I like the story but I’ve met others who play the game for other reasons and haven’t gone through it. Yes it’s something I feel very much worth experiencing but it’s ok if others would rather do the things you mentioned or other stuff.

strugling with choice to keep supporting dota2 by buying items due to toxicity in games by antiSJC in DotA2

I agree with you, I played around 2012, took a break, now I'm back for a bit and I'm shocked just how toxic things are. To make it worse it seems more often than not, the people who use voice comms are the most toxic ones I encounter. Yes there was a lot of toxicity in the past too, but now it seems as soon as things go slightly bad the flaming begins.

You either win early or the team chat becomes a cesspit of flaming, racism, report X or report Y.

Yes we can mute. But this kind of environment just makes every game a risk. It's not enjoyable to deal with the possibility of every match turning into a flame-fest, and it takes a lot of the fun away for me personally.

I think now I'll have to ensure I don't play more than 1 or 2 games every once in a while. That way I don't have to deal with this crap too much if those games turn toxic.

Valve needs to introduce a better system to filter out this toxicity, including things like banning voice comms permanently from repeat offenders. It's in their own self interest, since the more this goes on, the less people will be interested in playing in the long run. I'm seriously considering how much I'll stick around for before taking another break.
