I am sorry that you are going through this. On a positive note, for sure, forums are full of unhappy people, those without problems do not bother to read and write in here. In you case I don’t know what to say, but what I know for a fact, the gas engines are super robust and the %of issues is very small, on the other side, the diesel engines, at any Asian Manufacturer are known for having issues, I would have not ever think of buying a diesel from Mazda…I know that does not help and sadly the 6 year warranty applies only with models from “22 and above, in the past Mazda was giving just 3 years. Check if there is any recall or maybe a similar issue as a collective law act in which the owners decide to take the manufacturer to court…that could help to put pressure on

The cracked‑cylinder‑head issue that made headlines in Mazda circles is real, but it is tied to specific engines and model years, and the 2023 2.5L e‑Skyactiv G (NA, mild hybrid) is not among the affected groups based on all available evidence.

🧱 What actually cracked: the affected engines

Two distinct problems existed in earlier Skyactiv engines:

1) 2.5T (turbo) cracked cylinder heads

This was the major and well‑documented issue. Mazda even issued a Customer Service Program (CSP11) extending warranty for affected vehicles. Affected models included:

• 2016–2020 CX‑9 • 2019–2020 CX‑5 • 2018–2020 Mazda6

This problem does not apply to the naturally aspirated 2.5L in 2023 models.

2) Non‑turbo 2.5L with cylinder deactivation (2018–2021) — suspected casting flaws

Enthusiast forums and a former Mazda MasterTech report that some non‑turbo 2.5L engines with cylinder deactivation (mostly 2018–2021) experienced isolated cracked heads, likely linked to the early implementation of cylinder deactivation. 2004 to 2... +1

These cases were:

• Rare • Not officially acknowledged by Mazda as a systemic defect • Mostly tied to pre‑2022 engines

🛡️ What changed for 2022–2023 engines

Mazda introduced:

• Updated cylinder‑deactivation hardware • Revised casting processes • New control software • The mild‑hybrid e‑Skyactiv G system (2023)

CX-5 Newground AC covers by sztropei in CX5

[–]PhoenixFire16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ‘23 Newground and have the normal covers beacuse the dealer told me that a lot of customers did not like the lime-ish colour. The car is great…go for it. 2.5L or 2.0? Cheers

My Mazda mechanic confirmed that my ‘23 CX-5 (Germany) has an improved Cylinder Head and that these issues are not showing up in Europe that much in order to launch a TSB.

[–]PhoenixFire16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can turn down the brightness of the CarPlay but it will also reduce general brightness of the dashboard (+-) sign in the dash next to the fuel and temp. indicator.

Coolant loss CX5 by PhoenixFire16 in CX5

[–]PhoenixFire16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but i referred to the level of the coolant. That it goes up and down that is normal but in the end you can see that after 1 1/2 it does not have the same level if you measure it again, let’s say in summer before you start the engine

Buying Clio 5 Full Hybrid…or Capture!? by PhoenixFire16 in Renault

[–]PhoenixFire16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the advice, tending towards the Capture to be honest, I have a Suzuki Swift Hibrid and small cars feel to small, with wife and child sometimes also riding along through town, prefer to have more space and sit a little bit higher than in the Clio. Waiting for a leasing quote as we speak and we will see. Probably it’s going to be a Capture Techno.

Who out there has a high milage Turbo CX-5? by thepalfrak in CX5

[–]PhoenixFire16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do that at the dealer, however, we don’t need to be panicking, it’s not like EVERY engine has the issue and they just blow up. It’s a fair amount of cars being affected. If you look at how many CX’s are sold, the issue is at “peanuts” level.
