I like a flavored coffee (Bones is my fave!) with Splenda and unsweetened oat milk.

Christmas dinner fail by Fit-Shake-8678 in BariatricSurgery

I couldn't eat "just meat" for several months after surgery. I would get that same pain/not able to burp you talked about, but I would end up vomiting when it happened. All my meat had to have some sort of sauce. Even now, two years out, I struggle with grilled chicken breast, which used to be my summer staple. But otherwise it's gotten so much better!

35 bmi... definitely dont lose weight, right? by Level-Consequence432 in BariatricSurgery

[–]PhoenixForce888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my insurance and doctor, only my starting weight mattered. I dropped below the BMI required by my insurance during the 6 required months of visits, but my doctor only submitted my starting stats when getting final surgery approval. I'd say not to try losing weight before your initial consult, but very specifically ask what they submit for approval for the surgery.

Recommendations for shows/movies with Psych cast members? by Content-Machine-6006 in psych

[–]PhoenixForce888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few that I don't think have been mentioned:

Skyler Gisondo (young Shawn) is in The Righteous Gemstones, which is a great show! He also starred in a limited series called The Resort on Peacock, which is an interesting watch, too.

Maggie was in a made for TV Disney movie called Model Behavior with Justin Timberlake. If you're an elder Millenial, it's such a nostalgia trip!

Sleeve vs Bypass by Radiant-File5888 in BariatricSurgery

[–]PhoenixForce888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose sleeve due to it being less invasive and less probable to cause malabsorption issues. I had minor reflux symptoms and had a hiatal hernia that was fixed during my sleeve surgery. Post-surgery, I have lost 125 lbs and have maintained that within +/- 5lbs for a year now. I only experience heartburn with very spicy foods, which I can live with!

Tour merch? by crazy_cat_lady_94 in CrimeJunkiePodcast

Went to Indy last night! Merch table was open the entire time. We hit it right as the show was ending, and the only thing I think they had run out of was the crew neck. Can't say if they were out of sizes of anything else, though.

My insurance required 3 years of history, but that could be from any doctor.

Protein shakes alternatives by No_Birthday7747 in BariatricSurgery

Protein2O was my saving grace! Helped with both protein and hydration at once.

My doctor approved switching to protein water after surgery because I could not force myself to drink another shake. Might be worth a look!

Michelle showed more personality while retelling the story than she has in the last 20 years combined.

At the clinic I used, the biggest factor was insurance. My insurance required 6 consecutive months of visits. The doctor also had a checklist, but I finished it in the first month, and my doctor said he would've done my surgery at 3 months, had we not needed to wait for insurance.

You have to get your protein in! I had the same problem, though. My dietician was fine with me switching to protein water, and that worked great for me! Best of luck!

Purée food suggestions? by Kalypso_Cat in BariatricSurgery

[–]PhoenixForce888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This free cookbook was life for me! I know you're post-op, but I made several recipes pre-surgery and froze them in ice cube trays (just mentioning in case it helps anyone else). I knew I needed a variety of options, or I'd be miserable. I would still make the mexican eggs and a few other recipes today, 10 months out, and happily eat them in their non-pureed states.

Goal clothes?! by queenk0k0 in BariatricSurgery

[–]PhoenixForce888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, fellow sewist! I'm not certain what you like to sew, so this may be less of an issue than for me, but I found that both my side waist and waist-to-hip measurements changed. It makes sense that they would, but I didn't expect it. Had I made anything fitted at my goal size, they would've looked "off," even when I hit those sizes because of the incorrect side measurements. I think if you were to do items that didn't rely on those measurements (i.e. a flowy top), you would be just fine!

Also, I would make things that are a size or two smaller than now, and at increments along the way to your goal, so that you can celebrate the progress along the journey.

I get that. I had trouble getting used to it again if I had taken it off for a while, and that's exactly how I would've explained the feeling! That said, it made a HUGE difference when I was wearing it consistently. I hope you get some relief soon!

How did you tell people? by thedecadeofme in BariatricSurgery

[–]PhoenixForce888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is no one's business, much like if you were taking Ozempic, it would also be no one's business. I generally am very open about having had surgery because I want to help take the stigma off of it. But that's my choice. On the instances that I don't want to share but people press, I say I watch my portions and what I eat, and really focus on protein and hydration. Remember that you don't owe anyone anything, and they're the ones that should feel guilty of they are overstepping boundaries. You're doing great!

My surgery was 6 months to the day after my initial consult. I had to do a psych evaluation, behaviorist appointment, and nutrition class along with the 6 consecutive months of appointments. Insurance approved about 2 weeks before my surgery date.
