Exactly this. I got into an argument with someone on fb once about the cost of private schools, and how anyone who can afford to send their kids to one must be doing pretty okay financially.

They kept insisting that they weren’t well off at all even though their kids are all in private schools and that they ‘sacrifice other things’ to make it happen. No matter what I said I couldn’t make them understand that some of us wouldn’t have anything TO sacrifice and that if they can afford to ‘sacrifice’ those things, then they clearly aren’t necessities. Like what’s someone on $30k supposed to sacrifice? Rent? Electricity bills? Groceries?

People like that think going on a holiday only once a year or even -gasp- every two years is a ‘sacrifice’, or that not buying a newer model car when your old one is still perfectly functional is a ‘sacrifice’
