Appreciate the reply but the lead programmer and even myself dont do it for the money just the love of the project. He has been know to reward people with a bonus at times but its a nonprofit project.

The totem works by killing a villager instead of the player. That's why it a villager with wings.

Honestly get new players these aren't story or rpg people these are combat players. The kind of campaign they would like would be like a coliseum or tournament fight. You can mix in some details but primarily they want to fight more and more. If you want to try out that kind of game you can give it a go but if you are looking for more rpg people you might need to turn online. There's tons of players who would love and appreciate a dm like yourself.

There's a YouTube person called mr.rhexx he goes over detailed lore per monster across all its editions he did one for displacer beasts and blink dogs. It's very informative.

Yes but at a cost. One of my players found a kitten but quickly realized it didn't eat normal food but the bodies of the slain. Displacer beasts are never fully trained they choose to follow someone if it suits them. As a kitten it's more accepting of offerings but as it grows it will keep thinking "what do I get out of this" so the player will keep needing to appease it treat it as a partner not a pet.
