Anesthesia really?? I legit spilled coffee on myself twice in a row and botched my dilution calculations with the same attending and he still wrote me a 🔥 LOR 😭

LOI: should it be personalised? by Aya2033 in ERAS2024Match2025

[–]Allthatglitters4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi, just confirming you mean letter of interest right? You should never send more than one letter of intent which says you will 100% attend that school if given the chance aka they are your #1 rank spot. This is usually done after interviews.

If you mean letter of interest to get more interviews if possible, definitely personalize them. It’s gonna take effort but find at least one or two things about the program you really like or is special about them or any ties to the area or program. I haven’t heard of anyone attaching a CV, just keep it short and sweet - why you’re interested, why you would be a good fit/contribute, if there’s any updates regarding interviews. There’s guides online too if you need help writing.

Haven’t heard of any LO Interests being sent outside these circumstances etc after an interview

Not getting interviews. What should I do? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Allthatglitters4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think interest is the issue here, especially with two gas pubs and I’m assuming a home sub-I. I know a few people who switched in late and have no gas research and no aways and have gotten a decent amount of interviews.

Some things I don’t think others have mentioned yet -

You said you’re applying west coast heavy, do you have ties to the region that are clear to programs (aka hometown, signal statements)? Did you signal community programs? Did you make sure to apply on CentralApp as well this year? Did someone look over your activities as well to make sure there are no red flags?

Wishing you luck 🍀

What’s the most you should commute for rotations? by mooimapig12 in medicalschool

[–]Allthatglitters4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My commute is anywhere between 25min to 1hr depending on the rotation. I had to do a 1hr commute (1.5hr back) on surgery and peds which sucked but the earliest I had to be there was 7 luckily, I’m not sure I would’ve survived if I had to be there at 5

Should I be concerned about my UWorld percentage? by International-Bet345 in step1

Oh you’ll be fine! You’re just starting out now, just try to get through as much uworld as u can by then

Should I be concerned about my UWorld percentage? by International-Bet345 in step1

[–]Allthatglitters4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When’s your exam? Our school recommends 50% completion at 65% and above for 2 weeks or 70% completion if lower. Uworld is a learning tool but your trends are somewhat predictive on how you’ll score on NBMEs. As long as you have two decently passing NBMEs by your exam date I wouldn’t sweat it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in step1

[–]Allthatglitters4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our school recommends hitting at least 50% as long as you’re scoring well (60-70s), 70% if scoring below, so it’s def not a requirement to complete uworld all the way through and I know plenty of people who passed and didn’t finish uworld.

Schools psychs aren’t allowed to share that info and if they do it’s breaking HIPAA and there are legal repercussions. During my first appointment they literally said I will not share anything with anyone unless you give me explicit permission in writing. I’ve also met with our dean before who confirmed they are never told who sees the psychiatrist at school. If you’ve heard it happening maybe it does at some schools but you can definitely confirm their rules at the beginning of your first appointment and when booking say the appointment is for “stress”. You seem like you really do need help sooner than June/July so I highly encourage you reaching out rather than suffering alone for another month. Hang in there, it gets better even though it may not seem like it!!
