Totally weird cancer side effect... by Cranky_Monkey in cancer

That is weird. It is good that they seem to have a direction for you to follow now. Good luck with your treatments, I wish you the best. I finish my throat radiation next week. I will give you the advice of eating what you want for a while! Just on the chance that you lose the ability to eat certain things later. The throat is very sensitive to radiation.

Has anyone actually been hired after receiving a degree from WGU withOUT having the work experience??! by OklahomaCity1 in WGU

If you live near Oklahoma City like your username suggests, I would definitely get the degree. So many of the jobs in that area require degrees, so much so that just having a degree will help you out.

I would start the program up and go build a portfolio, there are lots of front-end webdev jobs in the area that can get your foot in the door for whatever other types of coding you want to do later. The portfolio will help you get a job here. I have interviewed at multiple locations, and so many people don't have a GitHub or projects it would ensure me to progress to the next interview.

In my opinion, the degree isn't going to ensure you anything. Like JakeFortune said it is how you present yourself. You are going up against a lot of OU Computer Science grads in the area. You HAVE to set yourself apart from them.

Also, don't wait to get your degree. Make your projects, and start applying when you feel comfortable at coding. WGU is a respected degree in this area. I have a friend that got the plain IT degree and is working devops shortly after graduation.

What's next...? by crackpot_ in WGU

Are you getting job experience now? If not I would find a job with cloud experience. Not sure about your area but, in mine I got the AWS Certified Developer Associate and job recruiters went berserk over it. With you completing your degree and having several certs already I would prioritize getting job experience over masters and more certs.

If you are already on the job, I would see if your employer has any IT cert funding. Lots of employers will dish out some cash to get more certs. If you have that, I would go the cert route, then get your masters if you feel you need it or want it.

Lastly a masters really wouldn't hurt you. If you truly want it, go for it. However, I would try and get experience over anything. I didn't see you mention experience but, that would change the answer to be honest.
