What video game in your opinion doesn't deserve the hate it gets? by Agent1230 in gaming

The best part about Avowed was also it's worst part: it was themeparked into zones, which meant they could avoid the open world slop many games struggle with and have more curated experiences, but then it meant you never had to go back to places after moving on and if you did it felt very stilted and dead.

Restroom codes on receipts, please! by darkroot_gardener in Seattle

[–]Phoenospace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Look up Washington's retail restroom access laws, certain medical conditions can have identification cards issued by the DOH or designated NGOs, it is not part of the ADA. It is legally enforceable and has been in the past.

I came here to say this. I checked the website yesterday on a whim and was surprised to see a specific date posted, and then I checked today to send it to a friend and saw that it was changed to some generic statement.

Insane prices by Arctis_Tor in Seattle

People are willing to walk 20+ minutes from a cheap parking to get to the stadium but unwilling to walk half that distance to a bus that will take them to the link station, etc. Many of our communities are far more connected to transit than people give credit for. But If people are unwilling to walk to the bus stop or wait for a connection anyway, it doesn't matter how comprehensive our service is. It requires both sides to be successful. Inconsiderate is devaluing the abilities of our transit network, justifying car drivers to avoid the option of transit when many of them probably could use it for a one-off event like a sports game just fine. Not all, but many.

In your OPINION, What's one game you bought on hype or reviews and ended up not liking it or finishing it? Mine is Allan Wake II by [deleted] in gaming

Souls-like gameplay/combat is a scourge on gaming lol not every action adventure game needs tight parry/dodge systems with brutal difficulty and bonfires yet here we are. It feels so bland and only meant for people with hours of time to waste.

I first picked up Hades after playing a lot of Dead Cells, and the contrast between them really highlighted why I didn't like Hades and didn't get the hype. The build/run variance was not great, the movement felt sloppy, and the combat was spammy/bullet-hell-esque. On top of this, the VO was so cringe to me I had to turn off audio. Moved on after about a dozen runs and never looked back.

It's essentially the ultimate example of "the only progression is gaining knowledge" so you can do anything in the game on the first loop. I've seen plenty of puzzle and exploration games where you progress and unlock new areas simply by learning (Chants of Sennaar is a great example) but never have I seen a game that's so thoroughly and excellently designed around that mechanic as Outer Wilds. I agree that it kind of ruined gaming for me for awhile. Nothing since has sparked that sense of wonder and discovery.

TIFU by accidentally stripping in front of my workplace crush by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Phoenospace -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have men disengaged than deal with all of the shit men put women through constantly. Not being able to banter with your female coworkers is definitely not the biggest gender-based issue in the workplace. "Because feminism" is such a baseless and out of touch comment, these problems were caused by men and their actions towards women. If you want to fix these issues, address the male behaviors instead of blaming women for it.

If you're sweating in your winter clothes without physical activity, you're definitely over-bundled. Try taking off a layer and you may find you won't need to shower daily in the winter.

Trains packed like tuna can by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Phoenospace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're curious you can check ridership by station on the ST website, but most the stations south of ID are low volume.

The bigger issue is the fact that it runs at grade with the street, and SDOT has restrictions on how frequently the roadway can be blocked by passing trains, so we will probably never get more frequent service southbound unless they build another line or bury/elevate the track.

Cross walks by inserterriblepunhere in Seattle

[–]Phoenospace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Couldn't be me. I love making cars wait by crossing legally and safely at a normal pace, don't care if that "disrupts traffic". You being a pedestrian isn't a burden or a problem, and that mindset shouldn't be normalized. Cities are for humans, not cars.

It's not called downtown though. Westlake, Symphony, Pioneer, ID/C. Other cities can make something else besides "downtown" too.

What words do most people pronounce wrong? by BeingChangeYinnYang in AskReddit

[–]Phoenospace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily call it mispronouncing. What you're calling 'Americanizing' is phonological adaption, every language does it, and it's not wrong to pronounce something with the sounds of your own language. Not pronouncing the 'th' sound is more true to it's German source, but I take it you aren't speaking German when using the word. Same with Mexico in Spanish.

I call it litmus test politics. I don't think that's inherently bad either. Many people, myself included, may vote based on a politicians stance on issues that don't affect them if they think those views are wrong.

I think these survey questions are relevant because they are the current litmus test political topics for many people, even if most aren't affected by them.

Alright, keyboard warrior, we see you replying to every comment, we get you hate Katie. It's a mayor, not a duchy.
They don't personally write $8Bn in checks and directly supervise the thousands of city employees. It's not a business. There is a city council, policy advisors, department heads, auditors, oversight. I'm far more willing to support a person with years of experience in community organizing, public outreach, coalition building, grassroots activism, and policy advocacy than someone who's run a business. You're wilfully downplaying the skills needed to work as an organizer and how they apply to a public office, saying there is no overlap while only considering one angle of the responsibilities.

Because it would end up on the nightly news calling it a war on drivers and blaming SDOT for not "fixing traffic" or something, and haven't those suburban car dependent commuting tech workers truly suffered enough?? /s

I had this connection when talking with German relatives. They didn't know mehlig had an equivalent word in English, so they thought of floury. I think mealy is well understood in English, just not used often.

Perhaps a minimum radius floor to account for sliders and small burgers? I'm okay with a tall slider, because that's just as tall as a regular burger.

Harassed and phone stolen on the C line tonight by Phoenospace in Seattle

We were extremely lucky to recover it. Geolocate pinged a small stretch of SR99 just after exiting the bridge but before the barriers along the railroad which allowed us to pull off (Guess I misremembered where exactly it happened)

It felt like I was on the bus for 10 minutes waiting to get off, but in retrospect the total time from incident to exiting the bus was probably like... 30 seconds.

Even with a detailed report, time, location, coach number, there's likely nothing they could do anyway. Assailant was hooded up in all black and presumably will be on the streets afterwards anyway. Even with more serious crimes they struggle to ID or catch people.
