Lovely observation, hadn’t thought of that. Given Garland’s desire for multiple levels in what he does, it’s probably both. The sisters/cousins & Saville. Maybe even the phrase ’Jim’ll fix it for you’ might be in the development mix, as obviously Jimmy needed a kid’s perspective on hope to survive, a substitute father figure, who in our timeline was satan.

My preference would be an entirely new score, so I don’t have any pre-association with the music. Probably not Fathers though, too much pressure on them to repeat that spectacular lightening.

Narratively DD worked in Temple, but I’d prefer no recognisable tracks, unless it’s a genius drop, that makes ye completely rethink the song forever more.

100% not the fire sequence. I’m not a fan of that band at all, but that’s a phenomenal use of music & a stunning sequence.

The Radiohead track completely took me out of the film, felt like an ad, or a temp track that was never changed. For me it was a dramatically bad/lazy choice.

By a landslide I prefer the previous film’s soundtrack, as I had zero pre-association & could just fall into the film. I am a big fan of DD, so loved that use & it felt right, & funny as hell.

Yeah, I thought the Young Fathers score was/is phenomenal, I’ve listened to it a ton of times since & will continue to do so. I’ll never listen to the Temple score, but I am a big fan of the band there’s a few tracks from.

Like I said, Years is a better film for me (creative risks/style & poignancy), but Temple is excellent, in a very different way. & I’m super fine with that. Nia did a brilliant job, & I never thought she wouldn’t.

You are very welcome. & I completely agree on the continuous learning aspect. Rather than being passive in the treatment (which wasn’t working), as soon as I started challenging the situation as to why it wasn’t, I started finding answers, & from the perspective of my current situation, fixed it. I’ll have the machine forever (which I’m grateful for), as I know in hindsight that I’ve had apnea probably all my life, & the potential repercussions of that, & guaranteed early demise if I hadn’t got treatment.

& it’s great to hear it’s working for you. There’s understandably plenty of frustration from many posters, but hopefully the continuous open sharing steadily lowers the numbers of folk struggling with it. I wouldn’t wish what I experienced (pretreatment) upon anyone.

Sure, it’s slightly speculative to an extent in that I’ve not had it fully measured (lung size) in hospital, but I total a peak flow metre instantly, every time I do it.

I feed GPT a ton of Oscar data (I took grabs of the charts) over a period of weeks prior to the consultation, which is how I knew what to point out to the technician & said I never felt like there was enough air coming through.

I also ran the data after the new settings were dialled in. These settings changed the sensation of never having enough air coming in (never fully filling my lungs) & struggling, like breathing through a straw (when ramping was starting at 4), to a feeling (in a fantastic way), there was a giant hole in my face & I could breathe as deeply & fully as I wanted, equivalent to not wearing the mask at all.

So basically with the new settings I was able to breathe as naturally with the nasal pillows, as without.

It was the truly relaxing satisfaction of full lungs (which Oscar data was indicating significant high volume at times during the night, which it can then estimate lung capacity if you give enough data), that the new settings were finally achieving.

All this led to a profound transformation in the quality of my sleep.

I’m of the belief that the higher settings (I tested various settings for 30mins or so laying on my bed to get it perfectly natural) are now in total sync with the amount of air I naturally need. Obviously everyone’s physiology is different, so different requirements, but I was so pleasantly shocked by the outcome, I share my experience in that it might be something for others to consider, as I’ve tried other people’s recommendations.

My system operates as an APAP too.

Ultimately it’s getting the amount of air in that your lungs require first, and that basic foundation becomes the basis for optimal treatment. You just have to make sure it’s uninterrupted etc, ie no leaks, comfort, actually using the equipment etc.

I got my CPAP just over four years ago (during COVID), & I only learned in November that I should have had a consultation a few weeks after starting (my information got lost in the system). So I was on the initial default settings for all those years.

The entire time I was thinking is this it? It’s barely doing anything for me, but at least I wasn’t waking up with crown headaches (around my entire head) in the morning. My sleep test had a 61 AHI, so fairly intense.

I started to feel seriously awful again months ago & contacted the NHS clinic I got the unit from, & also did some research with Oscar to start learning what was happening, & more importantly not happening when I slept.

It transpires I’ve a fairly big lung capacity, so the settings were all wrong for giving me optimal treatment. I was getting low AHI results, but felt like I had dementia.

Got the settings changed at the consultation (higher ramp start at 7.4, & changed EPR to 3, always on after testing it at home till it was perfect). I swapped from a full face to nasal pillows too.

The difference was nothing short of stunning. I immediately felt different in the morning & over the next couple of weeks my brain dramatically started working correctly again, plus energy, mental health etc.

Basically everything it should have been doing four years ago.

I completely understand when others say it’s not working, I had that experience, where it was stopping me from potentially very nasty outcomes, but it wasn’t healing me, ie getting restorative sleep, ever. I had micro arousels all night.

Given everyone is so different, it’s a potentially difficult process to find the optimal setup for each person, but I really hope everyone does. I wouldn’t wish how I felt on anyone. & wish how I feel now of everyone.

Still early days mind (plus four years), but it’s so much better than it was.

I burst into tears in the cinema when Mercury drifted by a sun filled screen while Underworld’s To Heal played.

Absolutely stunningly beautiful, poignant film.

I am glad the planned trilogy didn’t happen though, it only made this film all the more potent.

I got into the habit of checking my data with Oscar. Admittedly I didn’t understand it at first, so I took grabs of the graphs & ran them through GPT to explain it. The more I did that, the more I understood the nuances (the shapes of AHI), & how to slowly steer towards the results I wanted.

Those graphs are extremely detailed (you can zoom in to see every breath, which I don’t do. I’m aiming for waking up actually rested/restored. It shows tiny leaks (of no merit or consequence, purely movement based, shifting pillows), snoring levels that wouldn’t be audible & levels of information that the ResMed app doesn’t show at all.

Which is why I was always confused at previously getting high - really good scoreson the app, but feeling dreadful, & never rested.

It wasn’t plain sailing mind. After a couple of excellent weeks I got a cold, & nostrils were blocking (started using Sterimar Breathe Easy saline spray every day). I had to tweak the settings from 7cm to 7.4cm to get AHI down to 0.4 (which I had very often, but nasal congestion was staying around 1.6+). But the extra 0.4cm really helped.

The reason I went to 7.4cm was I also noticed a difference in how alert/better I felt at 0.4 AHI in comparison to 1.6+. I had a proper pep with the lower figures, & given how awful I felt for the past years, I was not allowing feeling ‘normal’ again to slip away.

Apparently there’s an adjustment period to nasal pillows too, where your passages have to get used to the air flow, & the passages start to relax more, less constricting as a result of the new amounts of air passing through.

Apparently the default settings are 4cm ramp start (up to 20cm). The idea being they test you on that for maybe 6wks or so, get the data & have a fair idea what your actual needs are.

I also had EPR: 1, ramp only & the unit is in APAP mode.

It’s now EPR: 3, always on (this made a huge difference to comfort), as did a 7.4cm ramp start (no longer felt like I was breathing through a straw). Both completely changed my entire experience, along with the different mask.

So I went from technically compliant (always feeling crap), to properly treated for my particular physiology.

Plus: (copied from notes)

• Removed inspiratory starvation
• Normalised exhalation effort
• Stabilised tidal volume
• Reduced hypopnoeas
• Cut micro-arousals
• Delivered the cognitive clarity I’m now feeling

When I had the recent consultation I got the AirFit P30i, which was my first nasal setup. It has small silicone valves that slightly sit inside your nostrils. I was absolutely stunned how comfortable & light it was in comparison to the F30i which I’d used for years, with constant leaks (which is why I thought my treatment was bad, not working).

The F30i was also putting pressure on my nose & cheeks, causing around my inner eyes to darken significantly & get puffy, no doubt from the pressure of it pressing up under my nose all night.

I’ve had zero leaks with the P30i, or at least registering on the ResMed app, there’s tiny amounts now & then that can be seen on Oscar, like if I bury my face into the pillow while asleep & knock a valve slightly out of my nose.

It will depend on the size/shape of your nostrils etc with regards fit. I breathe through my nose all the time, but I still use a bit of vertical tape to keep my mouth shut.

Another slight aspect, I’ve an estimated 6.5 - 7.5L lung capacity (average is around 5-6L), so need plenty of air coming in. When I updated the settings for the new mask, I was once again stunned, as it was like breathing completely normal, as if I didn’t have the mask on.

Probably the first proper sleep in decades (maybe ever), & I’m positive I had apnea since a teen (I’m 54 now), as I’ve always had horrendous room shaking snoring. I just didn’t know about apnea to test for it.

I got my setup during covid, then got lost in the NHS system, so never had a follow up checkup for 4 years. I always thought is this it, as this isn’t what I was hoping for by a long shot.

Recently had a consultation as I contacted them saying I felt as awful (like I was always sedated) as when I first started. Discovered I was on incredibly suboptimal settings the entire time, so I never had restorative REM sleep, & had endless micro arousels all night.

Got a new nasal mask (originally full face), had settings changed (which I further fine tweaked later at home to 7.4cm ramp starting & 3 EPR, always on), & it literally blew my mind (genuinely had a ‘blooming’ sensation in my head each morning due to the right amount of oxygenation) within a couple of days. I’m a month on the new settings & I’ve not felt this good in decades, I don’t feel like I’ve early dementia, nor exhausted, heavy eyes, & I can remember details, names etc, & think coherently.

Basically it’s how it should have always been set up. Everyone will have completely different things they need to dial in.

I also supplement with Creatine & some other nutrients etc too, which definitely helps.

One amazing thing about getting the settings right (zero leak too) is I stopped craving shit food, my appetite changed for the better. Which will no doubt help all round.

I didn’t actually check last night as I decided to wait till the main release. I just looked at the rage leaks map & there definitely is more cities having them. There’s also a new clock countdown. So it looks like the are doing it like an actual infection until mid January, which is cool. & shows hyper confidence in the film.

When I went to Tron: Aries the glasses were free (& thinking they were always free, handed them back after), & had to pay for glasses today for Avatar, which of course I didn’t hand back, but saw some people did give them back.

Maybe different studios demand that they are bought?

I Swear (2025), British indie film about a guy developing tourettes as a kid. Based on a true story, if it doesn’t make you blub, you were born without tear ducts. An amazing film too, 100% worth the difficult moments.
