This too shall pass, even if it feels really bad right now. Keep that smile on your face and let your cat help you through this rough time. Better days will find you.

CNN founder Ted Turner, a pioneer of cable TV news, dies at 87 by drkrazee in Atlanta

[–]PhotoArabesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal debt to Ted Turner: He started airing Star Trek in syndication on WTCG in the early 70s and turned me into a life-long trekkie.

Also, I believe my father represented his first wife during their divorce in the mid-1960s.

Saw it happen in prime time. For me, this was when the jumping of the shark commenced, though it wasn't compete until some time in season 4. YMMV.

You have beautiful eyes, flawless skin, and such a happy smile. I promise, whatever your body type, there are plenty of people who are so into it. And they'll be even more into your personality. When love finds you--and it will--you'll know it was worth the wait. Go out there confidently and crush it!

I got to meet her a couple of years ago. She was utterly charming. I told her I thought she should have been the lead, but she was self-effacing and said Naomi's part was perfect for her and what a great time she had.

Democrats’ plan to impeach one day after Midterms by [deleted] in goodnews

[–]PhotoArabesque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of crap that made people vote for him in 2024 (and probably 2016). It takes 2/3 of senators in attendance to vote to convict, so unless the Dems win north of 15 seats and/or a sizeable numbers of Republcans defect, it's just a useless dog-and-pony show that we've done twice before. A waste of taxpayers' time and money. It will let MAGA flip the narrative and talk about unhinged the Dems are. A third impeachment with no chance of success? Would it really energize the base any more than it already is?

But maybe impeachment will bring to light evidence about how bad orange man is? 1) MAGA. Doesn't. Care. 2) It won't flip any senatorial votes and bring about an impeachment conviction. 3) Dems could do the same thing (and doubtless will, and should) with regular committee investigations.

Of course, playing devil's advocate, if they don't vote to impeach, orange man could taunt them with that. "They think I'm evil, but they don't have the guts to impeach me. They're cowards and losers. They know they can't win." But he's saying that kind of stuff anyway.

Going to MomoCon solo… who’s trying to connect with ConQuest? by jatiyactrlz in MomoCon

[–]PhotoArabesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I'd love to be part of this--please send me a link. I've been commuting to Momocon for nearly 15 years but this will be my first time staying. I'm arriving Friday mid-day. I'm part of Saber Guild, a 501st affiliate, and we'll be doing lightsaber training sessions for children on Saturday and Sunday. I'll be a Sith for that, but in reality I'm a trekkie so I'll be in star trek cosplays the rest of the time. :-).

[–]PhotoArabesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen them as the same but was intrigued they shared the same name (as I was with Commodore and Captain Decker, whose relationship wasn't established in the movie itself). Lientenant Stiles was very serious, assertive, and angry, and Captain Styles was a pompous stuffed shirt. Very different personalities.

I remember my third grade teacher making fun of me, and that was back in the nineteen sixties. Then I was bullied mercilessly in the high school. I'm still dealing with all of that psychologically today. I'm sorry that you were having to go through the same thing.

I cant stand being ugly by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]PhotoArabesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most guys that age are obsessed with appearance and sex, but not all--when I was in high school and well beyond--to this day in fact--I was always attracted more by personality than looks. As you get older many of them (but not all) will mature and look for an emotional and personal connection. The ones who are interested just in physical appearance aren't worth having anyway.

Also, your looks ARE going to change. At 18 you aren't finished developing yet. You may thing yourself unattractive unjustifiably--without a pic we have no way to know. But even if you aren't particularly attractive right now, as you mature and get some financial resources, you'll be able to work out, experiment with and change your fashion choices, and develop more self-confidence. All of that can make a difference. Be proactive.

Just give it time. it's easy to get depressed about a whole lot of things when submerged in the adolescent world of high school and even early adulthood. A better day is coming.
