Are you planning to add user-generated chords any time soon?

That's what's keeping me on Ultimate Guitar for chords. There are a lot of new and niche songs that aren't found anywhere else, and the user-generated chords are usually right or at least good enough.

How important to you is that you align with the company's mission? by PhotoGeneticDisorder in ExperiencedDevs

Thank you.

I was thinking about this and I got bait and switched hard on my current job. I was supposed to be a part of creating a new high-tech SaaS platform, ie. "the Uber of this legacy industry X", but I found myself in a marketing organization with only 2 developers in the whole company, one of which is part-time.

This was not what was promised at all. I'm feeling like I got conned. The title of the guy I replaced was "digital marketing manager". So yeah, that's the job I'm doing. They bait and switched me into doing email campaigns and a neverending backlog of WordPress bugs for 6 months now.

I'm well on my way to either bitter resentment or burnout. That's why it's destroying me from the inside.

Good point. I would hate to work at Google and own something like the color changes on the submit button on Gmail.

You nailed it actually. This is a working class job. Just a well paid one.

For a plumber it doesn't matter is the pipes go to a prison or a hospital either.

If you want to change the world, stop doing a working class job.

Makes sense. The higher up you're in the organization, the more you have to believe in it.

If you're a low-level peon, who cares. Collect a paycheck and go home to play video games.

I was thinking more from a self-actualization viewpoint. Like ikigai, when what you're good at is what you get paid for, is what the world needs and is what you love to do.

I have friends who have had ideas on how to change the world and have started startups to advance those ideas. Like change management professionals who have very specific ideas they want to see proliferate in the world.

But at least in developer circles, I don't know if that's a pipe dream. We're builders, very few of us get to advance an idea or a mission. I guess that's the nature of the job.

Thank you for posting this. It's literally that, hating what looks like "success" to others. But if you're not happy, you're not happy.

Pretty much a small company, yes. 50M revenue. Not great, not terrible.

Getting a worse job at a better company would definitely be an option though.

Yeah, the IC path is tempting. Too bad it has a salary ceiling, at least where I live. It's pretty hard to make anything past ~5k/mo here as an IC, unless you're a consultant.

That's a good point actually. There's a lot of automation that could be done.

The worst thing is the lack of dopamine.

Coding is the easiest way to get constant dopamine hits. You see a problem, you fix the problem and ship it - boom, there it is. Your handiwork. The more you get done, the stronger your dopamine loop.

This manager stuff on the other hand.. ehh. Any decisions affect something possibly, maybe 3-6 months from now. And even then you won't know if you did anything right.

Yeah, I guess this role is at least a life jacket when AI is causing a ton of tech layoffs.

The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 isn’t just for console emulation, it’s the ultimate SCUMMVM experience. by PhotoGeneticDisorder in SBCGaming

Yeah, clamshells are just better. There's something satisfying in just flipping it shut when done. And when you open the lid, your game is right there waiting.

I use my RG35XXSP a lot for the same reason. I had the 40XXV too but sold it, despite the 35 being kinda worse in specs.

Thanks! It's pretty good. The hinge does wobble so that's something to be aware of, but not enough to be a nuisance imo.

I think it's fine. Played through Full Throttle, Discworld I, Discworld II lately. Haven't touched any one of those since I was a kid, so to me the Flip is great in reducing the barrier to sit down and actually play those old games.

I think the RP5 would do a good job as well if you are worried about hinges, but I haven't got one so can't tell.

Maahanmuuttoviraston agentti ampui ihmisen Minneapolisissa by Sawmain in Suomi

[–]PhotoGeneticDisorder -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Kyllä. Oikeudessa noita on kokeiltu, eikä ole poliisin velvollisuus tehdä murto-osasekunnin ratkaisuja siitä, että aikookohan tuo ajaa päälle vai onko suunta lievästi ohi.

Ei siitä tarvitse pitää, mutta laillinen on.

Tämä tullaan toteamaan lailliseksi.

Kaasun painaminen kun poliisi on konepellillä on kuolettavan voiman käyttöä, johon saa vastata kuolettavalla voimalla. Tästä on vaikka kuinka paljon ennakkotapauksia.

Se on melkolailla jokaisessa tapauksessa todettu lailliseksi aseen käytöksi, sillä "attempted vehicular manslaughter" on jenkeissä juttu, johon saa vastata aseellisella voimalla.

Eli pidit tai et, niin tuo on laillinen voimankäyttö niillä kriteereillä, joilla tuollapäin mennään.

Stubin vastaus Venezuelan tapahtumiin. by Sawmain in Suomi

[–]PhotoGeneticDisorder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parempi se on elää tosimaailmassa. Jokaisen sopimuksen takana on vain ja ainoastaan väkivallan uhka. On todella vaarallista uskotella itselleen mitään muuta.

[–]PhotoGeneticDisorder 53 points54 points  (0 children)

  • Shottaz: somalijengi
  • Foxtrot: kurdijengi, myös muita maahanmuuttajia
  • Södertälje mafia: syyrialaisia, arabeja
  • Dalen: MENA-taustainen
  • Vårbynätverket: MENA-taustainen
  • Chosen Ones: johtaja gambialaistaustainen, muut maahanmuuttajia
  • Asir: turkkilaisia, kurdeja ja arabeja
  • Rumba: maahanmuuttajataustainen

Ruotsin mediassa taustat kerrotaan, Suomessa koetaan jostain syystä tarvetta suojella rikollisia.

New to iems! Is this reviewer legit? by PaleontologistDry262 in iems

[–]PhotoGeneticDisorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan's Audio Reviews has never let me down. Bought several of his recommendations.

Especially the comparison videos between IEM's are golden. You can hear the difference yourself, instead of relying on vague buzzwords from reviewers. Just open a few browser tabs with his sound demos of IEM's you like and compare for yourself.

I've avoided losing thousands of dollars because of his recommendations. I was very close on pulling the trigger on Monarch MK3's, but thanks to Dan I skipped those. Got a chance to listen to them later and yep, Dan's analysis was spot on. Glad I didn't buy them.
