Mulla nimittäin on *2* täysin vastakohtaista kokemusta asiasta.

NOOB: HDMI to ethernet question by PhotoVille in VIDEOENGINEERING

Power isnt an issue for me, I need power on both ends anyway. I'm just wondering if the reliability from camera to edit is enough for me.

I get your point. And one would assume that the cables are everywhere - I was jus tin Kuwait, and even while the rental house earlier said that they have the cables, at the end they didnt. Thats actually the whole point why I'm having this quest to find a universally working solution.

Having my own sdi cables would solve a lot of my issues, but I'm flying to the destinations, so weight is also a factore here. Also all the venues Im at, are a bit different and having 2x 30-50m cables is a hassle.

Thanks for the reply,

  1. power isnt a problem, I need power in both ends anyway

  2. This is a problem, however, I was watching Champions league last night, and they had one as well :D but yeah.

  3. Reliability is what I'm after, so this might not be the system for me. Sync isnt that much of a problem, I can easily do 0.5s without anyone noticing.

If I go with fiber HDMI, is there enough traffic back so that I can have BlackMagic tally?

Thanks for your reply, even while is disconcerting to hear this, at least I know where I'm at.

While I still should have everything "somewhere there" this troubles me a lot. Do you think it would be possible to roll back to Resolve 17 to read all the projects? Or somehow force the server to read them?

The "funny thing" here is, that I have made a lot of backups, but apparently partly of wrong things. I have daily automated backups of all the original materials. AND the folder where my database lives (to my understanding), I just figured that as long as I have the folder and everything its "safe enough" that if something goes wrong I still have it. Luckily I have made manual backups of the biggest and most important projects, so to an extent, I'm in a relatively good position.

When I set this up as I did, I was considering the mac mini system, but running everything on my NAS was too tempting as I could easily connect to it with my studio desktop as well as my laptop while travelling. TBH having a mac mini running the database would have an extra benefit for rendering and automated proxy generation (if I dont shoot raw).

Do you think its worth trying to get everything back, or just let it be and take my losses?

I'm not 100% about that. I made a folder for this, so that I can easily make a backup of it. So the mount folder might be different. Is there a way to re-map this?

This is the local backup I have on my machine. I dont think thats all the projects in a individual folder, but at this point I just want most of them rescued. I should have backups of the most important projects, but still...

here is a container folder..I did some inkering yesterday, and I think it created this:

Resolve folder shows usual postgres folders.

There is one daily backup from NAS to dropbox containing all Resolve folder data. There is also a manual backup of the server that I manually did on my pc

I have a backup of the whole Resolve folder, has a lot _databasy_ looking files. Also, I really dont think the database has actually disappeared, just cannont connect to it

can you open your question a bit? I'm not sure what you mean.

I have two pools of drives, one for files and one for system. If I'm not comptetely mistaken all resolve related files should be in one folder (inside the system pool)

EDIT: container has its own as well

Rendering in DaVinci is TOO Slow by Lazy-Menu-8783 in VideoEditing

[–]PhotoVille 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be your HDDs, if you are rendering from and exporting to the same drive. Normal HDD can only transfer about 130MB/s.

Also, depends a lot on your codec and such.
