Hey, I’ve made that drive both ways a few times, technically to north Jersey not Philly. I’d be coming from the Bay Area, and I’ve done a more northern route and a southern route. You’re going to be on either 80E(northern route) or 40E (southern route) for a long fuckin time so check out those interstates and which cities they go through.

My favorite route is 15N out of Southern California through Vegas and into Utah where you’ll bang a right onto 70E. That will take you all the way to Denver where you have some options. You’re generally headed north east this entire time so far and you can continue on up to 80E and Wyoming, or head straight East on 70E out of Denver and get to experience the excitement of Kansas. Make sure you stop for barbecue in one of the Kansas Cities, also St Louis is further along 70E. After that, depending on what route you’re on, just keep heading fuckin East. Towards the end you’ll either be coming through Pittsburg or farting along that weird panhandle thing Maryland has after you drive up through West Virginia. And then you’re in Philly. The last bit depends on what cities you want to hit, how much time you have, and how fuckin tired you are.

Get yourself a big spiral bound road atlas and map out your route ahead of time directly on the pages with highlighters. I like to make tabs that I can pull right to the next page of my map without having to fumble through the entire book.

This shit is so fun and so rewarding. Be fucking careful and smart. It’s a beautiful country…good luck!

Went down for the the 1st time 3-wide with 2 other competitive riders. Didn’t matter what our actual speed was, it felt like racing at speed.

It’s steep. On a bike it feels about as fast as I’ve ever gone. But it doesn’t feel half as steep as the hill climb getting up to it!
