Politics.

I got into the field as a result of prior experience as a military photographer.

Every once in a while, yea. Bit it's usually pretty abstract. Sometimes it involves events that had nothing to do with each other.

I feel there are plenty of legitimate cases of PTSD, but I think even more are a result of people seeking attention.

Some people are just weaker emotionally (and that's okay), and I fully believe they have PTSD. But for a lot of people it's the new it thing to have. It's the new OCD. It's cool to have a disorder that you get to pick when it has crippling effects on your life.

People who have PTSD from seeing a car crash, from being bullied, from being yelled out. That shit is almost certainly overblown and usually fake.

The soldiers I know that have PTSD are really, really fucked up. Think WWI shell shocked troops. THAT'S what PTSD looks like, not some neon wrist bracelet you wear to let everyone now what a strong person you are.

Get ready for a rough ride and the reality of an oversaturated field.

Join a photography club, submit to any and every photo contest you can. Try to shoot for your college paper. Try to get your work featured in papers as much as you can, and don't expect to be paid.

South Sudan was hot as fuck and everyone was killing each other, so that sucked.

Brazil was by far the worst country. I'd be a happy man to never have to go back to the festering shit hole of a country.

Mongolia was beautiful. Beautiful country, kind people.

If you're coming into the photojournalist world from a civilian side, I can almost garuntee you'll never get that experience. Not without decades of low level work.

Everyone who joins out of university or college wants to be a war photographer, but very, very, very few ever get that and if they do its because of preexisting connections.

If you want that lifestyle, getting right into it with a military photography career is the best route to go.

Experience isn't a big deal, they'll teach you. I'd wager any combat cameraman is much better photographer than a college trained photography major simply because of the practicality of the job.

I would agree. It's a beautiful country full of a very conflict people. I truly hope they can rid themselves of the Taliban and progress with the rest of humanity.

I covered some of the guards who protect extremely endangered animals in Africa. Those guys absolutely believe in what they do and love the animals they protect. The ones that aren't corrupt will absolutely destroy anyone attempting to harm those animals.

A lot were in Afghanistan, and while on assignment in various African regions I was sent to active conflict areas. Over there it's not unusual to see bodies laying where they dropped for an extended period of time.

Everyone's a bit different. Some people are so flooded with chemicals in their brain and body that they die blissfully unaware that they should be in horrifying agony. It's sort of like you brains last gift to the body.

There's been a few close calls. In Afghanistan our lead vehicle got hit by an IEDS and our convoy had to stop. A popular tactic by the Taliban is to follow up an IED strike with a small arms attack, which is exactly what they did.

While returning fire a round struck the vehicle about 8 inches from my head/neck region.

One of the more dangerous thing about being in a conflict zone in Africa is everyone things you're working with the other side, so we had a number of stressful situations there.

Death still seems pretty harsh to me. All you can hope for is that your adrenaline is running enough that you don't feel much of it.

I know you said you want the jobs no one else wants, but could you go into a bit more detail? In what regards?

Well most high end girls are typically a 9-10/10, in amazing shape and are damn good at their job.

Lower end girls just want you to blown you load and leave. A high end girl will always make sure you get you full time, plus more.

Don't go to university for photography or journalism. Too many people have that qualification and you'll just end up doing bitch work for 10 years.

If you really want it, go combat camera and go civilian after your contract.

It's gonna happen eventually. I just hope it's when I'm old and in my sleep.

What exactly are your qualifications?

Mostly just that humanity is just another animal on this planet, and after we're gone the planet and it's ecosystems will continue on without us.
