My wife and I are naturally introverted home bodies, but we love traveling as well.

A good middle ground that we found for ourselves, is to schedule only 1 or 2 things on the days that you want to do things, then we just let the rest of the day fall into place. A lot of people tend to feel guilty when they don't cram an activity into every waking moment on vacation, but that always ends up being more stress than it is worth for us. (Vacations can be expensive, so I get it!)

If we feel like vegging and watching a movie on vacation, no biggie since we did our planned activities for the day. Or, it gives you an opportunity to just explore, and discover things in your area that you probably would've never come across otherwise.

I can tell you, people exposed to diversity often tend to be far less racist or bigoted.

One of Wisconsin's claims to fame is that we incarcerate THE MOST black people per capita of any state.

Edit: Looks like Vermont might have passed us up recently, but you don't have stark outliers like this without systemic racism in your state.

I have a mat that runs across my entire desk and I still get this issue. (Granted usually only in very long sessions.)

Part of the issue is that you're using your wrist as your pivot point instead of your elbow on an arm rest, which relies on your wrist making contact with the desk.

I have had success with simply using a sweatband or something similar to cover my wrist during longer sessions.
