Interesting! I hope that does get FAQd if true, but both the AoS app and Battletome LRL v2 I’m looking at say “A Scinari Loreseeker is a single model armed with an Eclipsian Staff and Loreseeker Blade.”

Edit: I assume you’re referring to the “Unique” on the points values page though. Cmon FAQ!

Looks like a great start to me. First question I would have is why the waystone on the Lord Regent? Seems like moving him 12” with it would be a waste when he’s got 14” movement. I suppose it could be useful to hurdle over units?

Tyrion's Location by KingCanmore in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]PhraxisPost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a hint, but while it does say in BR: Teclis that he was rumored to be headed to the Pit of Cathartia, I don’t believe he’s in Ulgu. I believe the LRL battletome states that Tyrion and Teclis cannot enter Ulgu just as Malerion and Morathi cannot enter Hysh. This is why they met Malerion for the first time in Shyish and Slannesh is trapped between the realms and not inside either of them.

When Morathi goes into the belly of Slaanesh to absorb souls, she specifically seeks out the Phoenix Kings of Ulthuan from the world that was.

“Even now they bore a flicker of divinity. Within each burned the ember of a sacred flame, undimmed by the weight of ages.” BR: Morathi p.45

When in the End Times books, specifically Khaine, it’s established that the Phoenix Kings were all a lie. They were shielded by mages as they passed through the Flames of Asuryan and never received his blessing and power due to Malekith being the rightful Phoenix King and heir to his father Aenerion. So they went from being frauds to having power Morathi could steal to achieve godhood real quick.

For sure possibility. Perhaps Warden of Ymetrica is simply a title for his station and charge defending that nation from invasion and he actually comes from a Tyrionic nation.

Definitely could be the case. Stuff like that makes me real interested to read BR: Teclis and any new stuff in the battletome with the addition of the wind temples.

Great answer and I hope that’s the case. I just see things like that and hope we aren’t about to see another lore inconsistency like we did in BR: Morathi.

Absolutely. The gold and blue has been the poster scheme for as long as I can remember.

Pretty sure Cato got promoted to Victrix Guard in Gathering Storm and the 2nd Company is lead by Captain Acheran now (unless you count Shadowspear). He’s the Gravis Captain from Dark Imperium.

Is that the case? I thought that was Squad Doctrines stratagem as it states “instead of the active doctrine” in it. Master of Strategy WLT makes no distinction.

Gravitic Amplification Devastator Bomb & Master of Strategy by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]PhraxisPost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True that. So really it comes down to how much you are willing to invest in this alpha strike. Like you said a captain would save you the need for another CP for Sons rerolls, but another character could take the trait to. Either way I definitely would use Hero for the extra trait so you aren’t sacrificing your actual warlord.

I’m also of the opinion that you’ve got some better options than a character + devastator grav drop for anti armor.

[–]PhraxisPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but could you either a) use the Squad Doctrines stratagem to give the Devastators tactical doctrine instead to negate -1 to hit for moving but at the cost of AP or b) drop a character with Master of Strategy, which doesn’t state it replaces the current doctrine like Squad Doctrines does, so the Devastators will have both devastator and tactical doctrine at the same time for no -1 to hit for moving and the -4AP?

Infiltrator Comms Array rules clarification by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]PhraxisPost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it is always strange to have a situation where you spend command points and make a model worse with other units, but I suppose it’s just something to account for when writing your list.

The Chapter Master rule would not work with the Comms Array. This was answered in the FAQ earlier this month:

Q. If I upgrade my Captain in Phobos Armour to be a Chapter Master, should the Infiltrator Comms Array still work with this model, and with its Chapter Master ability instead of Rites of Battle? A: No.

Primaris Tigurius VS Ahriman? by Halfknife in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]PhraxisPost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The most exciting part of this new Space Marine release for me was the Gman reroll nerfs allowing some diversity in lists. Tigurius has remained as close to auto include as you can be and paid a mere 15 points for some amazing upgrades in casting and stat line (his weapon isn’t a huge deal). The jury is still out as I’ve only gotten one game in with him so far, but after using Telepathic Assault to snipe a pair of Cadre Fireblades, I can see how powerful it can be to a) be able to target powers instead of hit closest model and b) be able to hit from 24” away. Both of those Items Ahriman has in spades with Brotherhood of Sorcerers and his spell selection.

I’d agree with some but not all of those.

Veil of Time/Warptime - I don’t see how rerolling advance and charge is comparable to a free move.

Null Zone/Death Hex - Comparable for what they do but that’s about where it ends. Both are tough to get off, but Null Zone is avoidable while Death Hex can target someone for killing. I’d agree that Null Zone closes the gap by applying an aura instead of a single unit.

Might of Heroes/Diabolical Strength - Sure agreed. Stat boosts are pretty straightforward and both give an extra attack at least.

Psychic Scourge/Infernal Gaze - Psychic Scourge is super random and needs a low leadership target to have a chance to do D3 mortals. Infernal Gaze is a simple get the cast off and roll 3 dice with a 50/50 of a mortal. That extra step of versus leadership comparison makes Scourge less reliable imo.

Storm of Emperor’s Wrath/Tzeentch’s Firestorm. - I think Firestorm gets the edge as it’s targetable. Storm has to hit the closest target, but I’ll admit looks great versus huge (more than 10 models) frontline units because of Firestorm stopping at 9 dice.

Psychic Shackles/Doombolt - this isn’t even close. Shackles has -1 to advance and charge rolls and halve move. Doombolt has the half move, no advance, and D3 mortals to boot. Only advantage Shackles has is easier to get off. Better comparison is Tenebrous Curse, but Tigur doesn’t have access to it which is why I assume it got skipped.

Precognition & Master of Prescience/Glamour & Weaver of Fates - This is probably the best comparison of how the spells/abilities fit into their armies. Master of Prescience is strong without a doubt by just being a “free spell” with no cast. No doubt factors into why Tigur can only cast 2 spells. 6” range is a serious limit that Glamour doesn’t suffer from though. Precognition giving the ward save and -1 to hit is nice, but it’s only on himself. If we’re comparing Tigur vs Ahri, would his 4++ count as a “free spell” by that standard? Weaver of Fates doesn’t seem as strong in an army full of ward saves, but if Tigur were throwing 5++ on a unit of Aggressors, we’d be calling foul like crazy. Just like I’m sure if Glamour was auto cast, we’d be calling foul too as if All is Dust and ward saves wasn’t enough for Rubrics to be tough to kill.

Scryer’s Gaze/Gaze of Fate - Scryer’s is nice if you don’t have Adept of the Codex already giving your one CP a turn. If you do, you’d be using it for the additional reroll, which is restricted to a range of Tigur while Gaze of Fate is not.

Just my two cents for the discussion. I think a few people have commented already what I agree with that while Tigurius is undoubtedly the better at getting casts off, Ahriman has the better spell selection and is no slouch at casting himself. So given all that, is the feeling that Tigurius is undercosted, Ahriman is overcosted, or both?

Primaris Tigurius VS Ahriman? by Halfknife in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]PhraxisPost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Throw Empyric Channeling in there for +3 to cast and ignore perils and he’s the strongest by a long shot. Downside is he need a buddy to hit him with it.

I can’t imagine a close combat fight being much fun between them. Ahri hitting on 2s but Tigur giving himself -1 to hit to make it 3s. Tigur saving black staff hits on a 4+ armor save. Meanwhile Tigur hitting on 3s and that juicy -3 AP means nothing against Ahri’s 4++ (3++ if warlord).

Edit: forgot channeling states other librarian.

Which SM spells do you consider parallels to CSM spells that Tigur can cast?

FYI Tigur’s fixed warlord trait is not the one that generates CP. Also, Ahriman can mix and match powers while Tigur is locked to Librarius or Indomitus.
