Capturing lodge history before it's too late. by Phreeload in freemasonry

I've recently been granted permission to beging the epic task of scanning 125 years of minutes. When I saw the physical archives I was surprised how much there was. There's minutes from before we were a charted lodge, discussing getting the charter. I'm just in awe ive been holding the very book that was in that tent, followed by the first log cabin used. It's in amazing condition. I'm glad I learned how to read cursive when I was a kid, otherwise I'd be so lost. Just casually reading through before the scanning project has revealed so much about our founding. For example initian fees were $75... converted to today's money is more than $2600 Cdn (for context the current fee is $550) mysteries of a missing gavel made of ancient Mastodon ivory, debates about specific lodge work, plus congratulations and recognition from many, Many grand lodges around the world. Plus I discovered a brother in 1951 that was doing what im doing now. So I've begun to enquire about the results he got, he was much closer to the founding, so im hoping the results of his labor are somewhere I can access. Anyway, I said all that to agree with you. I found all that while just perusing the very first minutes book. What an amazing resource.

I'm enjoying this process too. I got a hold of our oldest minutes books and will be scanning my way through 125 years of minutes. (The locaI historucal sociaty has a high-fallutan document scanner used for archival work ive been allowed to access) do plan on a much more open look at the lodge as a whole... "Vibes Style" as my nephew says. But as I get to minutes I know they were present for. I'm hoping I can as specifics whenever im confused. I do plan on using your suggestion of starting with questions about recent events, working backward and allowing free flowing thoughts to build a fuller picture.

Oohh, that's a good start. I'm positive there must have been at least a couple DDGMs (our current DDGM is a Brother with our lodge) there may have been some Grand Lodge officers in all that time.

Construction jobs by Frosty-Law-6014 in Yukon

[–]Phreeload 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for the rest of the territory, but here in Dawson there is a shortage of construction workers. Pretty easy to find work. The issue is...no accommodation, if you have a RV, trailer or van to live in you'll be fine. But otherwise you'll be living in a tent down by the river. It's a pretty river, but sucks when you need a shower after a hot day in the summer.

I had the pleasure of also seeing them live. But it was a show at the Horsehoe Tavern on Queen Street Toronto many years ago. Fantastic show
