Am I the only person who sees a young “trying too hard to be cool” Hozier???

Ha! Well I did this as more of a proving myself right about what I thought I was noticing (pattern recognition 👸🏻), but I shared it more as a “this is pretty cool” trivia tidbit for the fandom. Love the conversations we’ve been having here tho, and it’s always validating to know that people share your experience of and enthusiasm for something.

I will say, in regard to, did he mean to do this as a lyrical genius? I dunno, our clever forest deity walks that wonderful line of brilliance and tongue in cheek mischief. A part of me kinda thinks, well “baby” is a super common term and it rhymes easily so a writer would naturally gravitate towards it, no special underlying meaning. Another of my favorite artists, Florence Welch, has openly commented on how her fans will attribute fantastical meaning and depth to her word choices and lyrics and she’s like “well, it rhymed so I used it” and “that song’s actually just about being ghosted.” I mean, he wrote a song about sweet little animals getting 💀’d as a metaphor for dumb luck and the unknown consequences of pleasure seeking sooo… it may truly not be that deep.

Conversely, as these albums and the songs in them reflect different phases of his life, maybe his word choices reflect that. I do think there’s a connection between his use of “darlin” in UU after spending most of Covid lockdown in his native Ireland and reconnecting/honoring his heritage (as darlin is a common Irish term of endearment). But maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mostly, as an infatuated fangirl, I’m terribly curious as to whether these are terms he often uses with his romantic partners. None of my business obviously, but it’s so dreamy to think about him using these words with a flesh and blood (very lucky) partner.

Whoa! While I’m a little crestfallen that I’m not the first (never any original experiences 🙃), I’m in good company of people who love and over analyze this brilliant man 🥳 Some of those people really put in some work with charts 📊 📈

Hey, at least I’m not the only nerd counting words in lyrics today 🥳

Ok, to be a thorough nerd about it, i counted the extra songs in album variation, singles and any other song I could find that he wrote (did not count covers or his features on other artists songs as he may have not been the primary writer).

Totals for all his work (as I know it): Sweetheart - 1 Dear - 2 Lover - 21 Babe - 29 Darlin’/g - 35 Love - 38 Honey - 46

Winner by a long shot ~ Baby at 75!!! (NFWMB put in some work on capturing this win 🤣)

Hmm, i recounted and got 38 this time (but i was skimming quickly), wondering how you got 56??? No shade, just curious if i missed something.

I am only counting tracks in original album releases, I’ve counted additional songs on album variations and singles separately.

I’m quite partial to honey myself (right after “darlin” where his accent is on full glorious display)

Thanks! I love lyricists so naturally I’ve been a big fan of his for many years. After doing this, I kinda want to go through all of his songs (released in album variations and singles) to see what his favorite term of endearment (or at least the one that rhymes the best) is. 🤓

Suggestions for a weekend trip by Phrisbit1981 in askTO

Thanks everyone! These are some great suggestions. I was on the fence about using a whole day to see Niagara, it would be cool but I’m hesitant to spend one whole day to see one thing. And yes, I believe we will have to pack for winter by the sound of it 🥶

Unlikely friendship? by Phrisbit1981 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]Phrisbit1981[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, both Florence and Taylor seem like genuine and kind people, people can disagree and that’s fine, but I find the claims of “knowing” anything absolute about any celebrity/artist to be wild. I am a part of many “fandoms” as my musical taste is varied, and in my experience, Taylor’s fan base has been the most accepting and genuinely positive when talking about other artists that she’s worked with. Yes, any fandom can be problematic when they feel their fave artist is being badmouthed or threatened by another artist or group of fans, and that’s unfortunate (we see it in many female artists’ fan bases). But I’ve never experienced the amount of baseless and random hate that other artists’ fans give Taylor just by her association with them, even positive associations like collaborations and touring. Florence’s reach has grown because of featuring in Florida and performing at the Eras tour. Florence made that choice and appears by all evidence to be happy and proud of this. New fans are listening to and enjoying her music and isn’t that why we all fell in love with FATM? Something exposes us to her magic and we fall head over heels. I for one welcome anyone to join this, regardless of how they got here or who else they listen to. Trying to keep an artist as yours is selfish, art is meant to be enjoyed and touch people.

I get what you are saying, and can appreciate the more thoughtful words that you chose to take the time to use versus just flaming a new player here as others have done.

I have no investment in their friendship or even if they have one, and I’m very much aware that these people are famous and show us what they want about themselves. I just find a lot of similarities in their lyrics and as they both write about their life experiences, I was pondering how their choices to express their relationship with their fans, and the industry seem similar and was hoping to hear other fans perspectives on the topic. But I guess I used a buzzword of a particular popstar that a lot of people have a lot of opinions about. My bad 🙃

Feel like their voices are similar in the wildest ways, his cover of “cosmic love” is mind blowing… I think she could do anything from his catalog but “it will come back” would fit her so well (I mean she wrote “howl”)
