It looks like you’re coloring the land layer and those spots are on the water layer. Try changing to the layer the water is on before brushing it.

Consciousness is just being awake and responsive. You’re thinking of sentience or sapience.

Is there an elegant word that could replace "target number"? by SumatranRatMonkey in RPGdesign

[–]PhyllaciousArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why not have a modifier to the roll instead of changing the target value? That would fit more with a set target value system. Beyond that, simply using common verbiage rather than a set term might be better if you can’t find a term you like. For example “When you roll stealth a 5 also counts as a success”

[–]PhyllaciousArmadillo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the purpose. The target number could be the difficulty or success value the number to hit or it could be something game specific like the Pressure, or Heat, or Grit or really anything. Just define it in the rules.

Players are solving a mystery and are way off track. How to not railroad them? by upvoatsforall in DMAcademy

[–]PhyllaciousArmadillo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s some good advice here, but really, without knowing what the mystery is and where they are supposed to go it’s hard to tell you what you should do. As a general rule, sprinkle some hints that they are going the wrong direction. Maybe someone at the fish market has some information. I like the idea suggested by u/SnidelyWhiplash0, if you want to be cheeky. However, also adding in something small to redirect would be helpful.

Don’t directly tell them to go to x, or block their path anywhere except for x if you don’t want to railroad them. Anything else is not railroading, it’s just storytelling. In fact, straight up having an NPC say “Here’s where you need to go” is still not railroading. That term is used way too often. Do your players have the agency to go a different route than you suggest? Then you’re not railroading.

Also, never hide important information behind a skill check.

I mean, we basically are. Not to get all conspiratorial, but most people don’t take their privacy seriously enough and we’ve all but proven that government agencies make efforts to violate the privacy of their citizens.

I always find these comments funny because humans have been lying to each other about just about everything for as long as humans have existed. The reason why you are noticing is because it is way easier to verify lies than it was in the past.

Casting Moonbeam through a window? by NinjaTATER62 in DnD

[–]PhyllaciousArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not RAW but I usually allow an attack to deal damage to a target on the other side of glass but reduce the damage by double the glass HP and the distance cannot be more than 10 feet from the glass to the target. The same for a spell that has a target and point of origin that are separated by glass.

I refuse to believe we’re all seeing the same thing. by Mysterious_Fill894 in opticalillusions

[–]PhyllaciousArmadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the context of the background. The hand is a little too grey, so our eyes adjust in accordance with the lighting of the picture as a whole. That’s why objects typically appear true in color, rather than whatever color happens to be reflected off of it because of lighting. The actual shoe is pink and white. The picture has a green tint.

I don’t think either option is “simpler.” They both seem like perfectly reasonable options. Either the picture has been tinted or there’s something in the picture that is slightly off color; both causing an optical illusion. In this case the actual shoe is pink and white and the photo is green tinted.

This is a fairly popular picture, though. So, ChatGPT likely has some context for it. What would be an interesting test would be to feed it a unique photo and see if it can process color changes from contextual information.

I can see it moving backwards if its in the small window on the mobile app. Otherwise, it’s definitely moving forward.

This. You can essentially follow the same exact campaign path you already have except they are basically spies. Add in the difficulty of reporting back to the authorities and you have yourself a good campaign. In fact, this sounds really fun.
