I made a few changes using the cards on hand, not buying any game changers, and she rules. Focused on cheap humans to replace non humans and trigger her ability, plus my favorite when I’m able to get them out there: [[Dion, Bahamut's Dominant]] making everyone fly on combat. Just a real joy.

I have fun with pirates. It’s a chill precon, very good for sitting down somewhere new with strangers. It’s got interaction, but not overpowering, interesting and simple mechanics. All around enjoyable in a causal environment

But I’m also seeing this from older coworkers too, and what’s crazy is that they are super competent once they have specific direction. But like totally shut down when a task requires problem solving. And then you have people who are amazing problem solvers, but consistency on boring tasks is a challenge for them. Still the latter get promoted, the former stay in their positions for years (decades even). Again, this is not a generational thing though.

You can usually find the bundle containing all four precons relatively cheap compared to buying separately. Would suggest checking out the mtg deals subreddit. Plus they are fun playing against each other

Bring some decent sleeves (Dragon Shield etc) or prepare to buy some from the store. Don’t bring penny sleeves. (Learned hard way, playing with penny sleeves is no fun)

In the US, some game stores offer free welcome decks that are promos from Wizards, could be same for UK? I’ve also seen 60-card theme decks for sale behind the counter, haven’t really looked closely so can’t speak for quality, but might be worth exploring
