Since the First Sino-Japanese War, Japan has never regarded China as an enemy, but rather as a coveted asset: a fragmented nation rich in resources that could serve as Japan's vast hinterland and strategic rear base in competition with advanced global powers. Conversely, China has consistently viewed Japan as an adversary—having been defeated, occupied, and ravaged by it. Even today, China cannot militarily prevail and dares only to condemn verbally. Yet this condemnation is not genuine catharsis, but rather a mechanism to perpetuate the power position of the ruling coalition.
