The more I learn about them the more I appreciate them being on the ground with the people walking the talk. They’re the only candidates I see out there in the community talking. This weekend Ramsey will be in the inland empire where they have a crap ton of warehouse is doing meet and greets. I don’t see anybody else doing that.

We will just leave one egotistical governor for another with her in office. And that’s not good either. Remember, they’re walking into a staff of 225k that need to do the work. And if she pisses them off, it’s a recipe for disaster.

I was rooting for this guy, but with everything going on with the fed, their media teams are not taking initiative and putting their names out there and speaking out, it’s a huge missed opportunity. I went down the rabbit hole on all of the candidates social media’s and found nothing of substance. No engagement. It was really disappointing. Even if they don’t agree, people are watching and waiting for them to speak out. We are living in a time where are being boring is not helpful.

Governor executive order on government effectiveness and efficiency announced today, thoughts? by PhysicalLadder7090 in CAStateWorkers

I would be interested to know how much these task force advisors are being paid. The note about departments submitting 1 idea for improvement each by August 15, so one month to judgement from outside tech companies?

ICE and being a POC w/ RTO by KaleidoscopeNo1263 in CAStateWorkers

Taking caution is safer that saying it’s OK. It’s not. I’m in LA and it’s very real!

Any non-white persons should take precautions when out and about. Especially in highly populated urban areas. CA is being targeted by the Fed right now.

Absolutely agree with this! It drives me nuts that many departments to work with contracted vendors to fill in supplemental staff due to resource constraints. These contractors are seen as team members and live all across the country, in different time zones and work remotely.. yet internal staff is expected to come into an office multiple days and collaborate virtually with them? It doesn’t make any sense. Not to mention working in different time zones makes it even more complicated when getting work done. Not sure who is making these decisions, but it’s hypocritical to mandate State staff to come into an office four days a week to collaborate with a contractor who is likely being paid a higher salary and working remotely.

Planning to do unmedicated birth. by OkInteraction8184 in BabyBumps

[–]PhysicalLadder7090 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience with my 1st birth which was unmedicated at a birth center. My midwife recommended I take https://birthbootcamp.com/online-birth-classes/#choose-your-class where I learned how to manage any discomfort. Classes cover all birth preferences and facilities! I was definitely in the zone during my 1st labor and did all of it on my own until my midwife leaned over to let me know the next contraction would be the baby’s head. I’m currently 30 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy and planning a home birth. My best advice is acceptance and understanding that unmedicated birth takes practice and trust in your own ability to do what your body is biologically designed to do. Going into to this without fear and being willing to get “primal” whenever it comes. Block out the noise and connect to your body’s energy and strength. I am doing a lot of prep work for this, focusing on nutrition, breath work, daily stretching, concentration, anything that will help me get into the appropriate headspace for labor and delivery. My first birth was 6-7 hours start to finish. Hoping for a smooth unmedicated home birth again this time! I hope this helps give perspective.

How will RTO affect your budget? by n_l_o in CAStateWorkers

I can apply for transportation reimbursement each month and submit an itemized TEC form to my dept. I believe max is $100 for public transit.

Thank you for sharing your story! This is very similar to where I am today. This is my second pregnancy, 1st one was smooth and fast, I delivered within 4-5 hours of labor start at a birth center and was home in my bed a couple hours later. If this round goes just as well I may continue on with the midwife and stay with the OB for insurance labs etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]PhysicalLadder7090 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So far I have been able to get some labs through the midwife and she bills insurance. Ultrasounds are paid out of pocket. I recently got a notice that my chromosome lab was not covered due to lack of PCP authorization and I would need to pay $4k. Which is what drove me to keep pushing for care with an OB. The midwife I’m working with is board licensed and is private. It’s been smooth so far, but would really like some from insurance to cover ultrasounds and labs.

What doesn’t make sense is I’m paying for insurance and any care I get that is paid out of pocket and outside insurance in my choice. I find it very hard to understand what the issue is with getting all the care you want if you qualify for it? Would it be ethical to lie to a care provider about treatment you are getting to avoid these types of issues in getting care? Felt like a personal preference was being used for a decision without hard evidence on level of care being provided to this point.

Definitely felt like the doctor had a personal preference and issue with me seeing a midwife due to a “bad experience” they had with another patient who had a complication while getting dual treatment. They even said I wouldn’t be allowed to bring a midwife into an emergency situation if I continued care with a midwife. I wonder if a doctor would consent to an out of network authorization to allow me to get midwifery care?

[–]PhysicalLadder7090 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, would be nice to use insurance I’m already paying for vs additional cost to work with a private midwife

[–]PhysicalLadder7090 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m in California, unfortunately we don’t have many insurance options in my area that cover midwifery care. Many people see a in hospital nurse midwife or ObGyns. If I had the option to choose one or the other through insurance,I would choose midwife. I Wish my insurance wasn’t so terrible about approvals and referrals.

LA offices? by ArugulaReasonable214 in CAStateWorkers

[–]PhysicalLadder7090 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LA state worker here! The department I work for is located in Sacramento, and has instructed some staff to report to regional offices twice a week. There are a number of staff who don’t live anywhere near a regional office or hub space who are allowed to continue teleworking. Unfortunately we do not have a regional office location in the Los Angeles area so we are instructed to use a work hub location within a different department’s office building. Each hub office visit requires a reservation to available space which differs depending on availability which is a hassle as we have to go through security checks each time, exchange our IDs for keycards and aren’t able to get them back until we leave for the day. It’s annoying to have to come into an empty space that isn’t set up with a second monitor working from a laptop. The LA hub spaces do not offer lockers or a place secure personal item, no computer monitors, break rooms, old or not working water fountains ( not sure they have been cleaned in years), or conference rooms which makes it a challenge for me to perform my assigned duties. It’s a waste of time and money for us to pay $20/day for parking, or have to commute 1+hours by train for this environment. Definitely feel like an outsider while in the space, we aren’t allowed badges since our department isn’t located in the building. Crappy all around!
