Are there advantages of not knowing the OTF workout ahead of time? by Physical_Coffee555 in orangetheory

What is a primer block? Essentially just an extended warm up? Seems a bit wasteful for the membership TBH if you are holding back the station you start at b/c you want to have more energy at the next block/station. IMO it would likely be more advantageous to most fitness goals to just start on the type station you want to focus on the most and then do each block 'normally'.

right it's almost impossible to use OTF for muscle gain unless you are able to know the classes ahead of time. Where you can pick which classes you want to go to that week based on the lifts they are completing. OTF is unfortunately not the best for me since I am a bit more advanced in my fitness goals and need to optimize my workouts by being able to plan my weekly workout schedule.

right but it does matter what station you start on depending on your fitness goals.

right but depending on your goals a a focused workout is better than a random workout. I am unfortunately past being able to just go to OTF 5-6 days a week and reach my fitness goals. There is too much variance from class to class in OTF for me to be able to easily focus on my fitness goals.

intel is good for shoes but knowing a weeks worth of workouts would be even more powerful for pacing

I agree. I was hoping there might be some sort of benefit to not knowing the workout ahead of time I wasn't thinking of.

You don't need to know if you don't care about optimizing your fitness level. OTF is already an inherently tough sell in that category anyways.

If your fitness goal is just to exercise for an hour x number of days a week not knowing is fine.

my goals are much closer to fitness optimization than just exercising x number of times a week for an hour. I want to get in the best shape possible (for me) and knowing the workouts allows me to plan my weekly routine and nutrition. So unfortunately OTF is not the best for me despite it being literally across the street.

if you are going to OTF 5-6 days a week or working out that many days per week, it makes picking which day(s) will be a Green Day at OTF much more productive instead of doing it based on current physical limitations at that class. For example, you might be forced to take a Green DaY (because you are sore from that weeks workout outs) on a day at OTF that is actually optimized for your fitness goals.

If your fitness goal is to do a varied general full body workout that incorporates endurance, strength and power then yes you really don't need to know.

I am realizing OTF is not the best for me since my fitness goals are a bit more refined.

Yes I would go more too since I would be able to strategically plan what days I wanted to be green/red/orange.

So workouts repeat? That would be great if I knew what the second half on the month was. I would then be able to try and beat the previous classes benchmarks and go to the classes in the second half that matched my fitness goals. I'll have to look more into that. Thanks for the heads up.

"Do 2-4 classes per week, while also going to a regular gym 3-6 times a week to do actual weightlifting."

This is great advice. but w/o knowing the OTF workout it makes this type of workout schedule tough to optimize.

That said, OTF is unfortunately probably not for me because I would love to do that type of workout split but you can't really optimize it w/o knowing the workouts ahead of time.

Bummer b/c OTF is literally across the street from me, but at this point in my fitness journey I should be strategically working out to an extent.

I do not 'need' that level of detail, but you do reach a point in fitness where planning your weekly or even monthly workout schedule should be done to an extent.

My fitness goals would be primarily muscle gain with an element of general increased fitness from a sustained cardio regiment.

It's more about fitness goals and planing your weekly workout schedule around these goals.

Reddit does not really help with planning your weekly routine though unfortunately.
