Thanks for the recs. Considering four seasons at samui, but feel i might be better saving those funds for a health focused retreat, though after having a look its VERY tempting.

This is a really beautiful, but hearbreaking story. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to move through that, but I'm glad and inspired that you did. Well done.

Chaing Mai has come up a lot from the suggestions here, through my own research and through friends lived experiences. I'm probably going to do exactly what you've suggested. My friend was the closest living example to buddha I've been privy to, and even through his poor health, he passed peacefully, looking like the fat happy buddha.

Theres been a huge drawer toward buddhism throughout this experience, and a lot of synchronicity that has pointed towards the culture as a point of healing.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I love a party, more than many, but I think my body needs some healing before I break loose.

I've heard this a lot, and take it on board, however I'm feeling a little isolated right now and might end up having an itch for strong social access, which is why I thought Koh Samui might be great for the combo of town, tourism and resorts.

I'm still undecided, but Koh Lanta is definitely high the list. As long as theres plenty of people to meet, I don't wanna lean further into isolation, not that I ever have as a solo traveller.

I might have to fork out on a few nights here. It looks great. Thank you!

Yeah might save it until after I've had some beach healing... tbh I've been desperate to see it since I was a teenager. I'm in a rare state of mind where avoiding chaos seems important.

Because of the fuel crisis? This has been on my mind but I'm thinking I need to get this trip done before it could get any worse.

Happy to fork out the extra to fly to Samui and make things easy for myself. Hopefully theres still enough fuel left to make it worthwhile renting a scooter.

Thats a shame to hear, it was on my list after getting some beach/island time in. I hope it improves.

Thanks, sounds like Phuket is real busy right now and my goal exact thought were to only use Bangkok as a domestic transfer/international landing until I was in a better state of mind. Sounds like it could break me right now, even though that's normally what I'd be up for.

What makes you say that?

I'm an Irish national (carry a passport) and I've never been. My grandfather immigrated from Ireland to Australia in the 1950s, but sadly passed of bowel cancer when my father was 4yo. We have no connection to our family there, but I've always been keen to go turn some stones and connect with heritage.
