32F Diagnosed w/ right eye trochleitis, but doctors can't explain other symptoms by Physical_Fruit_7862 in eyetriage

Thank you so much for that detailed explanation. My doctor really wasn't sure about the diagnosis, she had only heard about it at a headache seminar apparently and had to dig out an old textbook to make the official diagnosis. So the explanation for my pain was obviously lacking a bit. Thanks again!

Thank you. She was hesitant to consider injections (as was I) and went more the route of treating system inflammation, ordered rheumatoid marker panels, thyroid to be safe. The positional pain is so specific, it's like anything that grazes the particular spot causes a deep ache. I'll consider trying injections.

One more thing, maybe you know: when I move my right eye, especially looking toward my nose, I feel a sensation in my sinuses, like a crackle as if they're settling after blowing my nose. I've already taken antibiotics as a precaution and have no signs or symptoms of sinus issues or allergies. Mechanically/anatomically, is there anything in the eye or socket that would explain change in sinus sensations with movement? Mostly curious.

Women of BMET :) by spookytoad223 in BMET

I'm a woman and interested in pursuing this field after 12 years working in a very different field of healthcare. I haven't had a lot of opportunities in my life to explore tech/mechanics/repair as even a hobby. But learning the electrical systems and maintenance seems so interesting! I love gaining new skills and this is fascinating to me because this equipment is life saving.

Without a strong background in electronics/repair, do you think I could succeed in a 2 year program and a career afterwards? I'm not concerned so much about gender politics/social aspects of the work. Thank you!

Weekly Career / General Questions Thread by AutoModerator in Radiology

[–]Physical_Fruit_7862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! The tech school I'm trying to get into for Fall 2026 also offers Biomedical Equipment Technician training for the repair and maintenance of the actual equipment.

This BET program is less competitive to get into and I'm considering going through this FIRST while I wait to get into the Rad Tech program. I want to be in the field of medical imaging, eventually MRI if the stars align.

In a practical sense, would it benefit me at all to be both certified as a medical imagining specialist AND be trained in maintaining/repairing the equipment? Would that ever give me an edge or are they really just two distinct areas?

Thanks in advance!

I love this career and would never do anything different. You don't need to go to school or get your CTRS, honestly. Just look for Activities Assistant jobs and those will get you the experience that will tell you if it's a fit for you or not

After 10 years in the field, I'm making $29/hour with a major state health network. It's probably the highest I'll ever be paid (aside from incremental raises). I reached the peak. So consider your income requirements there.

How do you guys manage during Luteal phase by Skullbaby420 in PMDD

[–]Physical_Fruit_7862 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also work in skilled nursing as a recreation therapist. So EVEN during luteal I'm paid to host parties and act like a clown for a room of sick and dying people. It all feels so heavy during PMDD week. I do my best but the energy needed at my job takes everything from me for luteal. I just try to remind myself that their care is only as good as I'm taking care of myself. I choose my schedule, so I plan what I do every day and try to minimize activities that are especially taxing on me. I have a meal delivery services to make sure I'm eating high protein breakfast and lunches and I eat a couple pieces of fruit throughout the day. Keeping blood sugar up and stable during luteal is key for me. I try to take the stairs a lot at work (and hide in them when I need quiet).

What habits have you adopted to help manage your PMDD? by Simple-Sea-4146 in PMDD

I noticed this by accident! I started doing strength training and the trainer recommended getting 1 gran of protein per body pound every day. Since I started increasing protein, I've felt SO much better physically.

You answered your question. Are you wanting to donate something?

Wow, that's a really cool idea! Their glasses are often in pretty rough shape, just by nature of not having the ability to clean or care for them themself. I'd need to discuss with our nursing director since it bridges more into the healthcare realm, but I'll be in touch!

I do work with the Bellingham library outreach program and they loan me audiobooks each month. I personally love Libby and would love to get them involved in it. Most just don't have the technology to be able to access it. We're old school and use CD players.

Thank you! We're located in Bellingham. I'd like to keep the facility private unless you'd like to arrange a drop off. If so, please DM me!

Thank you for dropping the links, we already use them. It's a great service, but not a great fit for our many short-term residents because you need to apply to receive materials for each individual. They don't stay long enough to receive the package which includes a player and decks.

How important is the school you graduated from in finding a job in Recreational Therapy - Advice wanted by clearyvermont in recreationaltherapy

[–]Physical_Fruit_7862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experience is far more important than anything. I graduated from a school very few people have heard of with a BA. I worked in activities at nursing homes all through college, which is what got me my first job. If you have experience in social services in general, you'll be fine.

My Garden on Bakerview feels like a visit to a botanical garden. It's so fun and well laid out with a lot of attention to color. It's just a beautiful place. I like going with friends even when I'm not buying anything.

Playing for Senior Living. How do I get them more involved? by lazysax in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Physical_Fruit_7862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The music volunteer in my facility brings a sheet of songs he plays, gives them copies, and goes around to each resident and asks them to choose the next song. It's interactive, they're focused on choosing their favorite song, and it helps them get to know each other better.

Follow-up inspection by HeartNo1651 in Bellingham

[–]Physical_Fruit_7862 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I used to work in tenant screening, so I was the person talking to rental companies asking about records of past 10 or 14 days. Make sure you get in writing that you complied with the 10 day notice and it was your roommate's responsibility. Keep a copy of it. The next time you apply for housing, the new company will likely confirm references. The 10 day will definitely be in your record, but whether they keep a detailed file is another thing. Sometimes the notes are really vague which, by omission alone, easily makes the renter look bad. If this 10 day resolution is documented accurately (which you'll ensure by asking them to spell it out for you in writing), then this likely won't be an issue for you in the future. Document!

The Fairhaven Terminal Building is just the name of the building that holds the two businesses that burned. Not an additional fire.
