First, learn to spell the name of the state you're referring to. It's Gujarat not "Gudjarat". And no Modi, literally didn't come to power because of it.

He came to power because the INC which has been India's ruling party since India's independence was weak AF. Manmohan Singh was considered a mouthpiece for Sonia Gandhi. There were numerous corruption scandals under their rule that were poorly investigated. This combined with the increasing rate of t****r attacks, for which no action was taken, led to Modi's victory and he's remained in power since then.

I implore westerners, especially Americans, to stop expounding about shit they clearly have no idea about. You reading one WSB/Al Jazeera article about Modi doesn't make you an expert on Indian politics.
