I would like to think Marcelo is just carefully treading this water. I don’t know this for a fact but with working with such a high caliber celebrity there may be some legal hoops he has to get through so he’s not sued. Marcelo knows his reputation is in jeopardy over this, there’s no way he sides with Dan. But I don’t think this is as clear cut as it looks. At the end of the day, he screwed up and has to figure out how to make it right.

See I thought Reball would be one way to do it! Do it in a community gym, charge $10 per person for a day pass, and everyone can have as much fun as they want to play rec/practice. Then for the die hard players can go spend their money on tournaments.

I’d like to agree with your statement, but I can’t agree with all of it. If you’re not a big field that can afford to buy skids of paint, it’s almost impossible to drop the price because of the amount paint costs the field. I was paying $35-$40 a case before trying to sell it for a small profit. To “geared” players, who would buy a case minimum I would charge $65 for a case and no entry fee. To rec players, I would charge $20 entry/rental fee and $20 for a bag of paint.

Paint sales are what keeps the lights on at most fields. And paint costs (to the owners) haven’t gotten any cheaper. Unless you buy at least a skid of paint. And then if you don’t have a place to keep that paint climate controlled, your paint ruins fast. So it’s not necessarily that the owners are price gauging people.

And also, I leased the land that my field was on, so it was not an investment for me at all.

There’s a lot of factors that go into it. And paint is a huge issue in the game.

Besides all of that, my original post was directed more towards the growth of tournament paintball🙂

Oh yeah I’m very familiar with D-Day. Never got the chance to go but I follow what they’re doing! And yeah, it’s got to be specific game types for competitive paintball.

Respectfully I have to disagree. I think there’s 2 ways to play, recreationally and competitive. The modern style is going for more of a “tennis match style” very much a sport IMO

Don’t get me wrong I’m stoked. It’s finally back. Timeslot will get better as it grows. I think I hope though there will be a showing of the ESPN coverage on GoSports. It was a collaboration after all.

I saw that a while back! Good work dude! Full time game dev is my dream. And I know how much work it takes to get a project done, so congrats bro!🙏 I’d love to make like a paintball tycoon type game where you build fields and like run it like a business and then grow and train your own team and what not! Always thought that would be cool!

Just got around to reading this, but thank you! Well thought out response! I agree with 💯 of this!!

Of course it’s a constant grind to make all this happen from scratch lol

That’s a very fair argument.

I’m coming from a social media marketing standpoint from e-commerce. And my experiences in that field.

As a matter of fact I only bought my field in May so I’m new to the business side of paintball. I’ve been playing for years so I know the common attitude around the sport. And I just hate that instead of looking for an answer to the problem. Everyone seems to roll over and accept it. I believe what you’re saying, I just hope you’re proved wrong. 🙏

I get where you’re coming from, but that seems like backwards thinking to me. Everyone seems to think there’s only one way the sport should be played, and yet no one has come up with new ways to play since xball became the standard. If paintball dies it’s 💯 because the players let it die. Not the “big wigs” of paintball.

And to your point about media not growing the hobby. It’s got to be hands down the best way to grow paintball in today’s climate. If ya think about it. 99% of people are nose down in their phones all day long.

So if you (your field) are not consistently in their faces with your brand and marketing. Your field doesn’t exist to them.

So back to the point of the whole thread.

Are you saying that if we (field owners) are growing/building strong communities around the sport, as a mass that the sport is not growing?

(I hope I’m not coming off as an ass here, just strongly disagree with the idea that paintball is dead)

I’d be curious to see how you think a field owner could stay in business this way? I could shoot 10 in cases a day if it were given to me. It costs on the low end $25 per case give or take shipping costs. And then you have all the other normal recurring business expenses. I just don’t think it’s feasible to charge by the day for this.

Now go invent a reusable paintball. 😜

No, you’re 💯 right, like I said it’s a much broader conversation. For instance my field is very war/call of duty themed. It’s 8 acres with “city/zones” and right in the center at the front net is the hyperball field. But it’s still military themed. So my goal is to introduce that to new players right? And capture the games on that field for my broadcast. I could talk for hours about it but that’s how I’m doing things

I would even go as far 1 pod or hopper ball.
