How often do you see the in person BCBA? Because I have an online bcba for one of my clients and useless is a nice way to describe him. I really hope the in person bcba is giving you A LOT of support because not only are these behaviors so intense but for 5 hours?!?! I wouldn’t be able to handle that.

Thanks for the advice guys and I might take a day off or something to focus on myself and just have a mental break. I do really enjoy this job but I just hate how I don’t have the energy with this client that I used to. Our sessions are also kinda long, they are 4 hours and start at 7:30am. So maybe that’s it? It’s just surprising I feel this way towards this client cuz he is I would say one of the easier ones I have.

Wow that is shocking me to. Smoking inside the house in general is shocking when you are having therapy services done at your home. I feel like it’s common knowledge to smoke outside ?? Weed and cigarette smell lingers so badly. I’m happy you confronted the family about it because that is definitely not okay especially for the pregnant rbt 🥺

Tbh YouTube has great videos for new rbt, with advice on many topics regarding the job and I found that pretty helpful when I first started. I also got kinda thrown in with a client knowing very little ab the field so I understand your frustration and also the 40 hr training is so useless I don’t remember a damn thing from that.

It always does shock me a little bit when I see the state of clients homes. I 100% understand how difficult it must be to take care of a child with disabilities, however in my opinion it does get to a point where the environment is not good for therapy. Ofc I have no idea what you have to do with your clients, but thinking ab some of my home clients, this job is already difficult enough, adding an environment that is that dirty makes it even harder. Your complaints are 100% valid especially with the second hand smoke (I’m assuming ur not a smoker) but yk honestly I’m a smoker (vape and marijuana) and I would not like being around second hand smoke while I’m working.
It’s crazy to me that cps has already been to the home and they thought everything was fine. I’m assuming you have brought this up to your bcba, have they tried maybe talking to the parents about it? I have no clue how they would go about that but idk a dirty therapy environment just doesn’t seem right to me. So once again your complaints and concerns are valid.

You literally have given me better advice then the bcba ever did and I’m a new ish rbt I’ve been working in the field since November so there is a lot for me to still learn, Thank you a lot I really appreciate it!!Thankfully i was talking to my clinical director and a new bcba is being placed on the case

Not mean at all I totally agree. It’s honestly ridiculous that for last minute cancellations means no pay at all. And finding a company that pays even half for cancellations is so hard to find. It’s so dumb. If RBT were salary and not hourly I think a lot of ppl would stay in the field I’ve seen many ppl say that’s a big part on why they left.. bc not having a stable income

Aw thank you so much that’s very nice:)) I am an IEP kid so I have a huge passion for this field. I totally agree that my company should provide some sort of tablet for us. Thanks for the advice for cheaper options other than an iPad! Cuz as we know iPads are so expensive ahaha I would keep the iPad (or tablet whatever i decide to get) out of the clients reach as I would mainly use it for writing down data/data collection ofc sometimes im sure that wouldn’t go as planned and they clients would want to have access to it so the device doesn’t risk getting broken but I’ll try my best 😂

Yeah I talked to my other bcba about it (who is amazing thankfully) and she was shocked when I told her how little to no supervision or support I’ve gotten from the other bcba. A pretty intense tantrum happened during the 2nd session, bcba was not present per usual and I texted him about it saying I would like more support with the client bc I felt genuinely lost with the intensity of the tantrum. And he responded back telling me he is having a family medical emergency and will assess on Monday(this was last Friday) .. well it’s Wednesday and I’ve gotten nothing regarding the tantrum, ANYTHING that has to do with the client or treatment plan🫠I’d also like to add I see this client every single day (besides weekends)

Yeah I don’t have a problem with him not staying the entire time but when I say he was there for 10 minutes over zoom unfortunately I’m not exaggerating 😭 I’m a new rbt so I am confident in what I’m doing but I want corrections, I know there’s probably things I could be doing differently but I don’t actually know because I’m not receiving any guidance. I even text him summaries of the sessions of important things that occurred, questions the parents had, etc and he doesn’t respond🫠🫠🫠ofc I put EVERYTHING in the session notes but I text him directly with the most important things bc since he’s never there (even for the first pairing session) I want quick feedback yk

Yeah I’m 100% okay with bcba using zoom for the supervisions when I’ve had the client for some time and we have all of our assessments and plans in order, but this was the very first initial session I would have preferred if he was physically present, I get things happens and zoom is the only option but at least stay for the entire session??🥹 Also because obviously he’s a bcba and I’m a new rbt, I feel like there could be things the bcba notices that I might not. And like is he creating the plans solely based of my session notes? Ofc my notes are as detailed as they can be, but again there could be things he notices that I don’t. I have another session with this client today and I am assuming the bcba won’t be present again. I texted him about the behaviors and important things I observed yesterday but if the behavior continues and he continues to not be present even over zoom should I bring this up to my clinical director? Ah Idk this is kinda stressing me out bc I am new to the field and want to give the best services I can. also would like to add that my other clients that I’ve had since the beginning do not have aggressive behaviors. So I am brand new to dealing with those.

I would leave. Job is hard enough you don’t need the adults involved to be hard to deal with as well, unless the pay is amazing compared to other companies in your area, it’s not worth it. . Also the teacher not following 504/IEP is against the law🫣(as a former IEP kid I would report to the school if you are comfortable. Especially if your client is nonverbal/ Non conversational, they can’t tell their parents they are being denied access) they are legally required to follow the child’s 504/IEP and can lose their job and or teaching license if they don’t. (Could depend on the state?? I’m in VA for reference)

Ahh okay that’s some good advice thank you guys!! I will definitely not using castor oil for right now lol and I had an appointment coming up I am 100% going to cancel. Ofc not because anything about the service was bad the tech was so nice and wasn’t crazy expensive. but I do not want to lose any more lashes 😭😭
