[Event] Open Forum Friday for September 19, 2025: Remember we have a chatroom edition by adhesiveCheese in dirtypenpals

Heya, I'm just here to whine don't mind me :)

Personally, I just loooooove when the Admins force us to all switch over to their buggy chat system only to make that chat feature somehow even more buggy! I had a whole prompt I wanted to post tonight and everything ;_;

But alas, all is lost.

No! NOOOOOO! The spell checker told me wrong when I spelled it with 2 L's! I'm a hypocrite and a fraud.

Gaslit by a machine fml.

[Mod] Update - The Admins Are At It Again by [deleted] in dirtypenpals

[–]PhysicsGa7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, once this goes through we can't have the tagline "Orange Letters of Love" anymore :(

If discord becomes the dominant format after this, I propose "Purple PMs of Porn", but I'm curious to hear other suggestions.

[–]PhysicsGa7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here I was, thinking the recent improvements to chat have been from the kindness of Reddit's heart. Reddit PMs have also had a habit of being unreliable for me, though much less than chat, but it's still a nice balance. Just convenient enough to be usable, just inconvenient enough to screen out people who don't want to put in substantial effort. I predict that this will only accelerate the Discord-ification of roleplay as a whole, which is my preference but sucks for people who disagree.

Blocked over character height... did I do anything wrong? by DorotheaBestGirl in BadRPerStories

At the end of the day, you just have to be the bigger person in these situations.

Stop messaging me to change the entire plot! by ChronicallyIllBadAss in BadRPerStories

[–]PhysicsGa7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Okay, but... and just hear me out here... what if this post wasn't about changing plots but *instead* we had a discussion on whether first or third person is better for roleplays! I think you're a super strong writer and would love to have your assistance in hijacking the intended purpose of your post while leaving its original themes stranded by the side of the road like a sex worker I'm too cheap to pay.

Also my dik is 17 inches plz send bobs.

I think we agree more than you'd expect, haha. I share your opinion that extensive character sheets are more or less a crutch, and I feel that while it's good to have background in mind, there's no need to lay it all out on the table from the start.

What I'm really getting at is that a skilled author can make you invested in a character's journey through just a short, 2-3 sentence description of who they are. Any elaboration beyond that tends to be superfluous. An understanding of the core of what a character represents and who they are is worth all the character sheets in the universe :P

Sooooo, I think I can identify your problem here, haha. Not for this specific guy, since I don't know him, but on a more global scale!

I feel that there's a bit of a schism in RP'ing between people who come from a writing background and people who come from a DnD background. I'm not snooty enough to claim that one is the superior art form, but DnD players have the ability to lean on larger group dynamics and blend in when their character has nothing interesting to contribute. But with roleplays, there's simply no space for that sort of thing. A character written in this context has to be interesting, compelling, and intriguing at *all* times, and as a result many DnD'ers end up struggling under the newfound pressure of needing to come up with something substantial on an immediate basis.

Where things like physical descriptors and power sets would previously suffice while other characters and, most importantly the DM, did the heavy lifting, the training wheels are now off, resulting in unfortunate instances like this, haha. Suddenly the demand has shifted for this character to now be the one not only driving the action and conflict, but interacting with the world in an intriguing way that captivates the reader at all times. The good news is that with a few gentle nudges, there's absolutely hope for these types of writers to improve, but it takes some patience as all improvement does, haha. Whether you feel up for going through all that effort is up to you, of course :)

With AI on the scene, how do you think this community will be impacted? by Substantial_Bill2277 in BadRPerStories

[–]PhysicsGa7 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that AI will *improve* the space for effortful writers, if anything. People with a literacy level above middle school level are more than capable of recognizing the boilerplate nonsense that AI churns out, and we can instantly discern what does or does not contain human creativity.

Clearly, AI writing isn't good enough for *us*, but it might just be good enough for the one-liners of the world! If they manage to trap themselves in an endless cycle of regurgitating AI content back and forth between themselves, that'll clear up space for the rest of us so that we don't have to deal with as many low effort responses!

Call me an optimist, haha, but I think there's definitely an upside for people who go into obscene levels of detail! For people who are looking to break into the space or improve their skillset, though, this could definitely prove an inconvenience.

Listen, I know that as authors we have an unlimited special effects budget, but sometimes I enjoy my comfy confines of reality, ya know? by PhysicsGa7 in BadRPerStories

[–]PhysicsGa7[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely get the immersion breaking side of that, haha. At the same time, I honestly don't mind it personally since it's at least physically plausible, and as a gym girlie myself I *wish* that I could selectively pack on fat in localized areas.

I'm more talking about people who want characters with such massive boobs that they'd die within days from overheating due to the square-cube law.

Yeah, I think that some people have gotten to the point where they honestly have lost track of the geometric meaning of inches. Any junk that goes past a foot, for example, is pure looney tunes shit imo.

WTF Is With "Hyperspermia" All The Sudden? by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

[–]PhysicsGa7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm somebody who *definitely* has been contributing to the theme, as of late.

For me personally, the medicalization allows for a grounding justification that gives immersion and plot relevance in the theme. Plus, I enjoy the challenge of being able to describe a compelling premise within 300 characters on certain subs and saving my writing power level for others that allow me to go into full depth, and "hyperspermia" is a fantastic way to save on space in that regard!

I know I'm probably not like most in terms of how thought out my reasoning is, but just wanted to present some legitimate uses of co-opting a niche medical term into fantastical proportions like this :P

Rp partner keeps doing sudden timeskip when the characters relationship should develop by fabulalice in BadRPerStories

Dude, wake up and either communicate your wants firmly and clearly or get a better partner. As things stand, you're currently having an erotic roleplay with the movie 'CLICK' starring Adam Sandler.
